Urgent Message for WA Groups from the ITA

"Is your incorporated club or association still active?"
The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP) is responsible for administering the Associations Incorporation Act that allows not for profit organisations, like community theatres to become incorporated. DOCEP is required to maintain a register of all clubs and associations that are incorporated. This register includes 19,000 associations registered since the first incorporation in 1986. It is now estimated that as many as 8,000 registered associations may be inactive and DOCEP is seeking to cancel the incorporation of those that are no longer operating.
Having scanned through the 220 page list, I can tell you that there are quite a few active theatre companies on the list - and I am attempting to contact them. It is tricky for the ITA to individually check each of our clubs as some are listed under slightly different names to those we know them as - eg it is THE Northam Theatre Group on the list rather than Northam Theatre Group (yes Northam - you are on there among many, many others.)
You can view and download the list of incorporated associations for which DOCEP does not have contact details and which may be subject to cancellation by visiting www.docep.wa.gov.au/associations/cleanup
or phone 1300 79 04 50 during office hours. If your association is on this list and is still active please contact DOCEP NOW!
IMPORTANT: If DOCEP had no confirmation of the active status of your association by the end of July 2005, a cancellation notice was sent to the last known address. If no response is received, action will be taken to cancel the association's incorporation. In other words if your committee didn't receive a letter to this effect recently GO AND CHECK THE LIST NOW. If DOCEP has no confirmation of active status by the end of August 2005, action will be commenced to cancel your incorporation.
You can view and download a list of incorporated associations for which DOCEP does have contact details, and DOCEP is also calling on the associations on this list to confirm their contact details. These details will be used to update the database to which notices and information can be issued.
PLEASE contact DOCEP if you wish to:
confirm your association's active status; or
register or update a contact address; or
know of any incorporated clubs or associations that are inactive.

calling us on 1300 79 04 50 (during office hours 8.30am - 5.00pm weekdays); or by
posting correspondence to:
