Flooding was: Free Portfolio registration for Actors Dancers Mus
Hi Robert
I did write to you some weeks back suggesting that flooding these boards with what is essentially copies of the same promotional information is inconsiderate:
http://theatre.asn.au/read.php?f=18&i=5594&t=5511
Perhaps you didn't see my response? I'll forward a copy of this via email just in case.
I'm very reluctant to prevent any individual or organisation making use of this site, but your flooding is bordering on abuse of the free services available here.
Cheers

robert,
before you do head off i would be really interested to hear what and how you have set yourself up. you still haven't answered my question and i would hate for folk to get themselves into bother if you have not set your self up properly. do let me know. if i don't hear from you, it's safe to say that you haven't set these things up properly and that is NOT SAFE for anyone involved with you. however...i could be wrong. get back to us soon,

Dear Grant,
Have received no email from you in the past.
I do not consider that I am Flooding this site.
Please check the number of my postings against that of other users.
I thought I read that Theatre Australia is interested in promoting the Arts?
Thats what I am doing.
I offer a service that Theatre Australia does not, thereby complimenting and enhancing this industry.
If you have the power to ban me from this site I guess thats your perogitive.

Dear Mick,
Please identify yourself and your company, business and position.

It is easy enough to check out if you are interested.
Be careful that you dont suggest that there is anything wrong or doubtful about myself or my company, which is what you seem to be inferring, defamation is not a nice place to go.
If you or anyone have any questions regarding myself or my company I would be happy to oblige with the answers.
Not only am I happy to give you my Name & Company details but I will also include my phone number.

Um, Robert, you're not helping your argument.
There is no such 'registration' that you imply here.
All you need to do to call yourself a company here is ...to call yourself a company.
There are companies in this list which no longer exist, or which have completely changed and not been updated, and there is actually no good way to delete old information (because it is related to posts in the 'what's on' section, which archives past shows by those companies).
Mick is simply a user of the site, and has no need to be a company, and therefore no need to correct you even though you ARE seemingly wrong in your above statement.
Relax, take a day off, and be more sensitive to what readers here are telling you. Arguing the way you are is making you sound petty.
Cheers,
Craig

Robert: Re your Spam
Robert James wrote:

Robert, you seem a little over-sensitive to criticism. Mick is not an agent (as you smugly inquire on another post), but an actor and an Equity unionist who actively campaigns to protect fellow actors from dodgy agencies. If he seemed to be asking you difficult questions, he's only doing his job...after all, you say that you will be happy to oblige anyone with questions about your company. Answering his was a start.
I think Mick could have phrased it better, but he seems to be asking 'what's in it for you?'. You seem to be offering the services of an agency or a 'showcast', yet apparently for free. So naturally as an actor he wants you to explain how you're funding the service (do you charge a commission, do you negotiate with employers, etc) and also how have you 'set yourself up' or in other words, how does he know the information on your books is getting out to the major casting agencies, film & theatre companies, etc?
You'll attract more users to your service if you'll realise that your average user is a sensitive actor who may not phrase themselves so well but nevertheless has genuine concerns about you. If it were me, I'd be reassuring Mick rather than picking a fight with him.
In regard to the amount of 'flooding', I must say that I agree with Grant.
In my view, someone who posts here with no apparent intention of continuing a conversation is simply taking advantage of the free advertising. This in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but when the users start to complain that you are taking advantage repeatedly and consistently, then I think it probably equates to spam advertising.
You indicate that you did not read Grant's response (which he repeated the link to in his above post). I recall responding to you in a very similar way after a previous burst of 'flooding', but I now doubt that you saw that either. That suggests to me that you have a tendency to post the same information many times, but don't return to read any responses to your posts. Therefore this does not seem like a conversation, hence we all feel you are flooding us with your advertising.
It makes little difference whether you are promoting the arts or not; spam is still spam.
Please note that I am not bagging you or your venture, but merely pointing out that the volume of your advertising on every forum is obtrusive. In fact, I have registered on your Amoureux site to test it; I'll be returning soon to update my details; and I'll be sure to report any results back to this site...surely that is far more valuable to you as free advertising.
I will forward this message to your email address, so I can be sure this time you are aware of it.
Cheers,
Craig

Re: stars struck
Oh, and while we're getting nit-picky, I've found that you rating your own posts with five star ratings is a little annoying also. I've gone and given you unfairly low ratings, simply to make the average look a little more realistic.

Sorry, I meant to include this point in one of my above posts. (Now it will seem like I'm flooding the boards..!)
'Flooding' is not defined by the number of postings, but rather by the amount of mindless repetition.
So for instance, I have posted here over 1000 times, but have managed to write something original virtually every time, and I only post once in the appropriate forum.
You have posted about 35 times, and about 80% of that has been the same old advertising spiel, on every forum at once.
WE consider that flooding, and we hope you will expand your own private definition.
Cheers

apology to robert james
hello robert,
sorry for any inconvenience. i believe that crgwllms has answered your query. if i come across as a little blunt it's probably to do with my glasgwegian upbringing and a sincere concern for my fellow actors.
there are, believe it or not, folk who are not completely up front about their goings on and in the last year we at the MEAA have had the unfortunate experience of some unfortunate souls getting into bother with unscrupulous talent agencies. another one of the reasons our members are members is that we make it our business to look out for their interests and that is a great reason to encourage your clients to join our union.
to make the industry a lot more transparent and safe for the artists involved and to protect the reputation of honest agencies, i make my enquiry regarding the commission side of your register, as i could not find information pertaining to this on the website. having not heard from you, i mistakenly thought you might be avoiding answering the question. could you please let me know where i should be looking.
look forward to your reply in regards this and again i apologise if you took it the wrong way. i bet your one of the good guys.

robert,
i think this is fantastic and, despite what may be perceived as overscrutinising from the sidelines, i am really impressed with the information you have been forthcoming with.
it definitely sets the mind at ease and shows you to be up front, unlike certain companies who shall remain nameless at this point...
i wish the endeavours of your talent register all the best and am sure it will be a great success.
regards, mick
