ATTENTION PROCRASTINATORS: This is AB-solutely, POS-itively Your VERY LAST...
Sat, 19 Mar 2005, 11:51 am...chance to see GRADS/UDS production of 'The Winters Tale'!
If you're a procrastinator (like me) the only reason you haven't come along already is because you've decided to park your 'sweet patootie' on what passes for a couch in your miserable, bleak hovel and watch the idiot box till you start to sprout!
(For those of you without a sense of humour, I'm being 'funny' -- you obviously don't live in a hovel -- otherwise you wouldn't be a visitor to this here cult-ural website... as for the 'sprouting' bit... well, you know who you are) :o)
Anyway, I digress... here's WHY you should show up, $18 bucks in hand, ready to ingest this FEAST of Shakespeare:
- It's GOOD... well, you expected me to say that, didn't you! (But, truly it is... my business partner and his wife, who have NEVER stepped foot in a theatre, let alone a 'Shakers' play LOVED IT, and haven't stopped RAVING about it to me ever since!)...
- It's CLEAR and UNDERSTANDABLE... John Milson (Director) has taken HUGE pains to make sure that each and every member of this elite community cast has had voice training and professional direction in projecting their voices AND getting their parts across convincingly...
- It features EVERY FINLEY (Acting) AWARD WINNER for 2004 in the cast... yep, all 5 of 'em (don't tell 'em I told you, but they're doing a bang-up job too... bloody actors are likely to get bloated heads and not fit through the doorway onto the stage!)
- You get to chuck tomatoes at ME, if you wish... it'll go with the HAM!! (Vegetables NOT supplied!)
- We'll ENTERTAIN YOU come hell or high water! We've performed in the RAIN, we've performed in the HEAT and HUMIDITY, we've performed with the peacocks... we've been hardened by the elements of nature herself... all to move and thrill YOU, slacker, and get you off your couch! (Don't blame me, I just love using that word... 'SLACKER') ;o)
- It's full of LEWDNESS, just like we love our Shakers! There's plenty of crotch-grabbing and other such shameless antics... and that's just backstage! :o)
- You get to SUCK UP hundreds of years of history, sitting in a theatre designed to the EXACT specifications of an Elizabethan stage (the ONLY one in the Southern Hemisphere)... and judging by the obvious 'pain' we motley actor-types seem to cause the big-wigs in the English Dept who own the theatre, you may not get too many more opportunies to see *anything* in this historic theatre...
- You can OGLE the peacocks... they LOVE IT! After all, natures most pointless bird has to have something going for it, right?
Seriously, though, this is a fine production of an under-produced play, the like of which you may not get the opportunity to see again for many, many more years...
