“Quartet Season – Cancelled”

THE scheduled first season of 2005 for the Garrick Theatre Club in Guildford has been marching on the spot due to a comedy of errors that has caused much confusion, angst and heartache for those concerned. The Garrick Theatre Club committee has now decided to cancel the current season of Quartet and hope to resurrect the show sometime in the future.

The problem occurred where two theatre groups were issued with the performing rights for 2005. One group is a professional company and the other being Garrick Theatre (community theatre).

The show was well into rehearsal when advised by the professional company that their Perth season would be cancelled if the Garrick proceeded. Under those circumstances the Garrick committee could not morally and ethically proceed with their scheduled season.

Garrick Theatre wishes the professional company a successful season and look forward to seeing Quartet in June when it is performed in Perth.

Legal consultation on behalf of Garrick proved that Garrick were contractually fully within their rights to continue to produce the play.
