Attic Theatre Company brings Spirits of Christmas to St GeorgeÂ’s College

Bring a rug or beach chair and picnic with friends and family in the stunning private courtyard of St GeorgeÂ’s College, Crawley before enjoying a magical performance from PerthÂ’s newest classic theatre company.

The first time in its 74 year history that the College has been used for a theatre season, the red-brick, cloistered masterpiece offers the perfect setting for this uplifting story of the power of Christmas.

“The St George’s College courtyard could have been designed for classic theatre” said artistic director Stephen Lee. “The sheltered, cloistered space will be easier on the voice than many outdoor venues and it has a backdrop of old ivied walls, turrets, steps and fountains that many directors can only dream about”.

Patrons will be able to picnic under the stars on the grass before enjoying a magical performance as Attic Theatre Company brings to life the characters of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the Spirits of Christmas in a classic retelling of A Christmas Carol to delight young and old alike.

Unlike many versions of the story, this production remains totally faithful to the 1843 novel, as the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future take us on a colourful and touching journey through the life of cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge. Slowly, Scrooge comes to understand what he has missed by living physically and emotionally shut off from the world around him and, for the first time in many years, greets Christmas morning with joy.

Attic Theatre Company has been formed to provide opportunities for talented local actors to present exciting, fresh productions of some of the worldÂ’s most-loved classic works. We hope to continue to perform in inspirational venues such as St GeorgeÂ’s College, keeping ticket prices affordable and the theatre accessible to everyone.

A Christmas Carol previews on 7 and 8 December with performances from 9 to 24 December. Tickets, including family, group and season passes, are available through BOCS.

The other shows in the Attic Theatre Company Summer Season are William ShakespeareÂ’s As You Like It in January and Tom StoppardÂ’s The Real Inspector Hound during February.

Re: Christmas Carol

Hi everyone

I really would like to offer my wholehearted support to this venture. I am sure it will be a great production with a fantastic cast.

I went to see a professional production the other day and the audience numbers were quite low. I spoke to the director who made the comment that the audiences for theatre in Perth seemed to be dwindling very rapidly.

Personally I would love to prove him wrong and it would seem to me that this production, by a new company, would be the perfect way to do it.

Let's all support this great initiative and let's make sure that the powers that be know that we are a very interested and supportive theatre going public. If we don't, I fear we run the risk of even more actors and directors, of the calibre of this cast and this director, leaving Perth and going to somewhere where they are going to be valued.

I hope that this production receives a full house of enthusiastic theatre goers every night.

break a leg everyone!
