ITA News - DramaFest
Tue, 5 Oct 2004, 11:50 pmITA NEWS
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PARTICIPATING CLUBS AND THEIR MEMBERS AND TO ALL THE PATRONS WHO ATTENDED THIS WEEKENDS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ITA DRAMAFEST/YOUTHFEST 2004.
SPECIAL THANKS TO MELVILLE THEATRE COMPANY WHO HOSTED
AND SHOWCASED THEIR MAGNIFICENT VENUE.
The wonderful people at Melville ensured that this weekend was hosted to perfection and the I.T.A. were able to produce an unforgettable weekend.
Nearly all sessions were full houses or very close to it and thank you to all of the people who participated and attended the weekend.
This year's DramaFest was adjudicated by Mr Stephen Lee and to listen to his incredible dissertation and not forgetting his witty humour was an experience in itself.
Kerri Hilton also adjudicated during the memorable YouthFest session and it was fantastic to have these two respected adjudicators share their wealth of experience with us all.
We were entertained by 21 performances over three days
from clubs as far and wide as Karratha, Kalgoorlie and Bridgetown.
The Clubs That Entered This Year:
(in performing order)
Melville Theatre Company, Playlovers, Garrick Theatre Club, Stirling Players Youth, East Waikiki Primary School, Lesmurdie Senior High School, KADS, Blak Yak, Irish Theatre Players, Goldfields Repertory Club, Bridgetown Repertory Club, Karratha Community Theatre, Mandurah Little Theatre and Kwinana Theatre Workshop.
An incredible array of talent and all shows were of an excellent standard with the majority surpassing professional theatre.
This year it was very exciting to have FOUR new WA written plays -
congratulations to these authors and the directors.
Stephen Lee said yesterday at the award presentation that it is great to see new works written and we all need to encourage more locally written shows - and that we also need to encourage more youth entries for the future...
...we need to foster, nurture and encourage our youth as they are the future of theatre.
Again - what a wonderful weekend.
If you would like to see a full list of all the winners from this weekend.
Then please check the ITA HOME PAGE above the forum listings.
Finally - we all need to continue to support not just our own clubs and friends but all amateur theatre. Even though the attendance this weekend was brilliant, we hope that the thousands of theatre lovers in Western Australia that did not attend this weekend will do so next year and the years to follow.
Let's aim to make ITA DramaFest/YouthFest 2005 even more bigger and brighter. Start planning your one-acts for next year!!!!
Cheers
Melz :-)
