Fri, 23 July 2004, 09:18 amComing out of school into the world of Theatre i have come to the realisation that im in Perths black hole of theatre. Willetton, not a Theatre for miles yet Willetton Senoir High has great up and comeing actors. Ive bin thinking for a few months that i should start a company in this black hole to help out these up and comers.
My question is, Where do i start. like ive got the name and thats it can someone please help me? its hard to find a venue around here to.
If there is any Actors, Techies or produtcion people in the black hole that want to make a new company can you please contact me.

Sun, 25 July 2004, 02:42 pmHi Sebastian,
You don't live in such a black hole as you suppose!!
Before going in to start your own theatre company, why not join an establihed one first and see what it entaile, there's a LOT more to it than just starting.
ALL of the current community theares need youn members and there are several not too far from you, Here's a sample
Melville Theatre Company, Old Mill Theatre in South Perth, Kalamuda Dramatic Society , Roleystone Theatre., Harbour Theatre in Fremantle, Arena Arts & Entertainment, Vic Park, Blak Yak, Kalamunda.
If you're REALLY intent on going it alone then here's a sample of what you need to do:
1.Register a name and become incorporated, that way if you go belly-up you personally are not liable for debts
2. Write a constitution
3. Hold a meeting (Before 2!)
4. Get Insurance, no-one will hire you a venue unless you have at least 10million public liability just for starters.
5. Find some money to put on a show for venue hire, insurance, royalties, scenery. props, costumes etc etc etc
6.Find enough people to do the donkey work and THIS is the really important bit
7. Join the ITA (should have put that at number one)
It's much better to join an established group first, although I realise that's not what you want to hear.
