Re: For Greg Ross

Ahh!

One of my all time favourite songs - "Angelique" by Scott Walker, though, if one remembers, 'twas writ by Mr Brel.

And whilst I'm rambling, P.J.Proby is to sing in Melbourne ... why not Perth?? Anyone who can remember him starting t sing "Maria" backstage and then somersaulting onto the stage, will remember those as being real musical theatre!

But I must hurry, for tonight I have a one act role at the Luna - that of Seymour Moore 11, brother of Michael Moore.

Songs of Love and Hate (thank you Leonard), should be sent to:

Re: For Greg Ross

gregross2? Does that mean there is another Greg Ross? Scary stuff!

Although it is very good news for the Margaret River wine industry.

Re: For Mr Schulze

The other oneÂ’s an impostor! Or just wants to belong.

I believe, believe it or not, in an amazing piece of coincidence, that he slaves away at some Toyota? car dealership – do the Japanese make cars??

Once, many years ago, I misplaced my drivers licence, picked up another one, then a few weeks later, the constabulary turned up on the doorstep, alarming the bride. It seemed some cretin had found the lost licence and was stealing lawnmowers off pensioners in the Southern suburbs – he’d take them (the lawnmowers!) away for repair and never return. Luckily, in terms of proof of innocence, I was out of town at the time – my road train driving period … give me 40 acres and I’ll turn this life around!

However, there are now rumours of a bloke using my name, who likes Roy Orbison, lives in West Perth and has been attracting the attention of young, ill-disciplined thugs in the uniform of Plod. Where will it end I ask you? Probably in a Mt Lawley chemist shop, buying pain killers.

Speaking of wine, I now have my own label – two varieties – Full Throttle and Forest Idyll. When next we break bread, I’ll continue as the puller some say I am and open a bottle or two.

Re: For Greg Ross

Thought I'd let you know I saw P.J. Proby perform at Twin Towns on the Gold Coast last Fri. & Sat. night. Whilst he may no longer somersault onto the stage at 65 he is still the greatest rock star I have ever seen & he still has that wonderful voice. Whatever you do don't miss his remaining performances in Sydney 13th & 14th August & Melbourne 18th August. I'm going to all of them. It's a brilliant show & was booked out both nights at Twin Towns.

Re: James Marcus Smith

My dear Mr / Mrs / Ms Priest

You are a saint, but also a sinner!
For I want to go and even toyed with flying over for the Melbourne show, but alas, a boat show here in Perth has me bound.
I am jealous, but please, post a review.
Cheers

Re: James Marcus Smith

At last I've found this page again. Apologies for the delay. Proby was great despite throat/chest infection.
He is still a brilliant performer and still has that wonderful voice & stage presence. We were lucky enough to meet him at Sydney airport & shared a plane to Melbourne with him,(also Gerry & The Pacemakers & Billie Davis). P.J. was just so nice to us.
Hope you enjoyed the boat show.
I've been inspired to commence an Australian Proby website at pjproby.150m.com and I hope you will check it out. I've been amazed by the number of hits since commencement on 1st Feb.2005.
At the moment there's not much there but shortly I will add photos from the tour & hopefully a couple of very short videos of Jim singing.
Unfortunately I'm a novice with computers but I'll keep plugging away. Hope you will keep an eye on the site & perhaps keep in touch.
Regards,
Tony

Re: PJ not the jammies

As a PJ fan, I have to throw my two-bits in. Back in the late 60's I booked to see PJ in concert, he was opening for Cilla Black. His stage trousers were so tight that when he moved around they split apart all around his thighs. To which he was subsequently warned, anymore of that you are out of the tour (we are talking late 60s here, what a joke) To my disappointment he did it again before the show hit Manchester and was promptly booted out. He was replaced by Tom Jones whose first hit record, "It's Not Unusal" was at 24 in the charts and climbing rapidly to number one. So I guess you could say I missed out on one legend but saw the beginning of another.
PS I remember reading years ago that Presley would pick about 20 songs and PJ would record them in Presely's style as his voice had a lot of similarites to Presely. Then Presely would listen to the 20 demos, pick the 12 he liked and record them for his next album. This being before PJ made a name for himself.
Just thought I would throw in a bit of trivea, I can only pass on what I read, true or false.
Last I heard he was living in Bury, a suburb of Manchester, making commercial jingles; so I am glad to see he is on the comeback trail.
Good on him.

Thanks for your interesting recollections Ray. Please check out my website for Proby fans at pjproby.150m.com
It will become more interesting as it expands in the near future.
