Re: acting

Call me a bit paranoid but...

I wouldn't give out personal mobile numbers on websites.

I understand the frustration felt by the young actors on this website and in the commmunity when it is hard to come by suitable auditions but you also have to be careful of how you go about finding them. There are many people out there who would love to exploit young hopefuls.

Like I said, I know I'm a bit paranoid and I AM thinking worse case scenario but with the constant postings by young people looking for 'experience' on here, it alarms me somewhat with the "i'll-do-anything" approach.

Anyways...good luck peoples.

I agree

NO way would I ever post my mobile on a website. If I was you I would delete or edit your posting asap. Its always better to be safe than sorry. I mean, maybe put your email but never something so direct as a phone number or address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck anyway!

Over: Re: acting ?

This is lifted/paraphrased from something I posted here a few years ago...

I'm not actually convinced that posting a mobile number is really that threatening, particularly if it's someone's work contact....why is posting it here any more dangerous than say, passing it around on a business card, or putting up a notice on a board at uni?

Eventually, people on websites may find they need to talk to each other; if you're going to leave any number, I'd think a mobile number is by far the least threatening.

Plenty of directors, actors, etc, have left mobile contacts in their notices in the Audition section and elsewhere, over the last several years....have any of you ever had any cause to be concerned for your health and safety?

Cheers,

Re: Over: Re: acting ?

Except that in this instance we're dealing with (pardon the expression) a minor, I agree with Craig.

Call me agist (agist, agist agist!) but I'd be a bit worried about who might be making contact with my 15 year old who handed out her mobile number to a bunch of strangers.

You're 16 now? Ah... go for it, you're old enough to know better!

;-)

As Craig suggests (actually Craig, I'm sure there's a post of mine that predates you on this issue) there's no reason to believe the Internet offers any significant degree of exposure than a notice on a notice board at the local shopping centre.

The last time I checked most of us were listed in the white pages online and our phone numbers could be readily looked up - unless you have a really common surname like Chan or Williams!

Cheers
Grant

Grant, I'm slightly more worried if you actually mean 'agist' (to take in and feed someone's sheep?)
I guess you mean 'age-ist', (meaning someone who commits age discrimination, like the word racist...although I notice in my dictionary the word 'ageist' doesn't exist...I think we've made it up relatively recently.)

And unfortunately, from my observation, most 15 year olds who have mobile phones are probably regularly in touch with a whole bunch of people you might be a bit worried about....
Of the small proportion who ever do come to grief, I don't blame the method of communication as the cause.

There's only one 'Craig Williams' in the Perth White pages...feel free to stalk me if you happen to be up as late as me.

Re: agist called to say I love you...

at 6 am this morning you made me smile Craig.... the first of the day, thank you, and no don't ask why I was staring numbly at the screen at such a terrible hour.

And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

I feel that those under 18 (yep, I'm ageist too) should definitely not be putting their mobile phone numbers on public forums. Yes, I know that the odds of being stalked because of it are phenomenally small but I wouldn't be taking that risk. Besides, have you asked your parents or guardians before doing it?

When I was 16, I wasn't listed in the phone book. Actually, when I was 16 mobile phones were for yuppies, but you get my point. And my listing in the phone book (yes I am in there now, although you'll need to get the right m. merchant if you want to stalk me, 'cos my sister would be very upset if you called her) doesn't give my age.

I know this is going to fall on deaf ears and next week there'll be another post from a 15, 13, 11 year old wanting to be an actress (notice it's always girls?) giving away all her personal details.

But seriously, please, please, please do not post personal information if you are underage.

I'm done with the rambling for now.

Come and see Red Dwarf II - Kryten, details on this site :)
