Female Actor Wanted, St Budgie
Sun, 5 Oct 2003, 08:57 pmSaint Budgie – the Patron Saint of Coach Captains.
The incredible tale of a beautiful – well, she must have been once – young maiden – well, she must have been once. She first appeared at a Golden Fleece roadhouse on the east coast of Australia, a ghostly dark haired apparition, gliding out from behind the Nescafe machine, somewhere between Brisbane and Sydney, on the inland road.
“Hi,” she whispered seductively into the ear of the Skinny Dog man, “Take me for a ride, ” she breathed, playing with his left epaulette. Only too willing to help a member of the travelling public in distress, he readily agreed, saying, “Seat 5b is free.”
The next morning, as the coach wound its way down the fog shrouded Blue Mountains, she suddenly appeared at his shoulder, as he slipped down a cog, “I need somewhere to stay tonight, can you help me?”
And so began the incredible tale of Budgie, a veritable saint to so many coach captains throughout the 1980s. Alone and without fear, she would ride with coach captains from one side of the country to the other, soothing their tired brows when their shift was finished. Usually on top of any situation, she had no favourites, thought ‘tis said she had a slight preference for those from the Blue Army.
The author last came across her on the border, where she produced a small bag of a wondrous calming herb, which taken along with a bottle of red wine, gave new meaning to the word mulled. Her ability to give a blow by blow description of the whales passing by in the Bight below was nothing short of miraculous.
For those she knew well, sometimes she would pose for a picture or two and there are photos of her mounted in the homes of many coach captains. Truly a saint, she never complained and whenever a new coach captain appeared on a route, she would travel with him to ensure he learnt how to come safely on time.
It is surely time to pay homage to Budgie, the patron saint of coach captains. Auditions for the part will be posted shortly.

Let me put this into perspective.
On the day, St Barbara will be dressed in a costume being made specifically for the part costing approximately $300.00.
They will be paid $150.00 for three hours work and have the option of a lunch at an exclusive restaurant worth $90.00.
This will be paid for by members of the industry who wish to contribute to the dayÂ’s events and take it seriously
Now I could employ a professional model but thought this would be a chance for someone to earn some money who might otherwise not get this chance. Me thinks not too many of these offers come up on this website.
You should know that there are families and friends of people who have been killed, who look to this day to see that working collegues remember their loved ones.
My personal email is available if you wish to banter with me off air. I have a great sense of humour and would be only too delighted to exchange witty barbs - pardon the pun!
