Re: Hoo Haa Haappening
Hey Craig,
What is this?
Is it some kind of stand up gig?
Some kind of play?
Some kind of wonderful?
All these questions and MORE!
sorry about that I got in Batman mode.....
No seriously what is it?
Alex.

Re: The Big Who, Huh?
G'day Alex
You can find out some info about The Big HOO HAA if you look us up in the 'What's On' forum....but no, wait..hold the bat-phone, I've done it for you.
You're right on all three counts...a bit like a play, a bit like stand up, and a bit weird and wonderful.
Cut Snake Comedy presents an improvised comedy show, The Big HOO-HAA!, almost every Friday night at the Freo Hotel (cnr Cliff St & High St, right near the old Roundhouse Gaol).
I say almost every Friday because there is another group that hosts a stand-up comedy night in the venue on the first Friday of every month. We get the other Fridays.
Sam Longley, becoming well established as perhaps Perth's most accomplished improviser, studied the style at Chicago's Second City Improv, then came back to Perth and organised a large ensemble who regularly practise together and randomly make up the teams you'll see on any given night. The majority of the players are professional performers and/or established stand-up comedians.
2 teams of three performers 'compete' for points, in a series of challenges a bit like theatresports, a bit like the TV show "Who's Line Is It Anyway?", and a bit like a soap opera drama. There's an MC who acts as the referee/timekeeper, and a musician (usually me) who accompanies the scenes, sometimes spontaneously creating complete musical numbers the cast sing to. The audience (we get a lot of regulars, who enjoy participating as well) get to throw in their own suggestions which the players have to incorporate in the best way they can.
Doors open about 8.30pm, show starts around 9pm, usually goes to about 1130pm. Organised in 3 brackets with short intervals, so if you get there late (or have to leave early) it doesn't really affect your enjoyment of the show. And it's only $10 bucks (or $8 with a concession) so it's damn good value.
Non smoking venue, in a room off to the side of the main pub, where you can get your drinks anytime.
Anyone's welcome...we've had teenagers attend who enjoyed it; although, because it's a licensed venue and there is inevitably a fair bit of 'adult content', minors probably ought to be supervised.
From the 'What's On' blurb....
"This impromptu night of fun, now in it's second continuous year, fuses standup comedy with live theatre. Every performance promises something different with two teams of performers in competition of wit and humour utilising audience suggestions and limited props. Featuring an ensemble of Perth's funniest improvisers, seen in shows such as 'Spontaneous Insanity', 'Soap On A Rope', 'Comedysportz', 'The Fright Before Xmas', 'Porn Academy 3', 'Sex, Drugs And Self Control'....
Different cast and referee each week, drawing from; Sam Longley, Libby Klysz, Vito De Francesco, Michelle Baginski, Brett Turner, Kath Burnette, James Eaton, Damon Lockwood, Gibson Nolte, Xavier Michelides, Sean Walsh, Andrea Gibbs, Claire Hooper, Mark Storen, Nick Candy, Steve Hearn, Mike Staffer, Mike Djukicz, Kerry O'Sullivan, Mark Calligan, Glenn Hall, Maxwell Leech, Toby Malone, Kai Tier, Paul Calligan, Chrissie Best, Maggie McPhee, Werzel, Andrew Horabin, Brent Hill, Craig Williams, and special guests....and YOUR suggestions! "
Hope that answers some questions...only real way to find out is to turn up, because every show is always different.
Next one not until October 10th. See you there!
Cheers
Craig
