The founder and Artistic Director of WA's Black Swan Theatre Company, Andrew Ross, has been appointed Director of the Brisbane Powerhouse, QueenslandÂ’s home of innovative and progressive live arts. Mr Ross will take up his position in the early part of 2003 and will relocate to Queensland.

Peter Kingston has been announced as the Acting Artistic Director of Black Swan. Mr Kingston recently completed his term as Head of Theatre at WAAPA. He was formerly Head of Directing at NIDA and Artistic Director of the Griffin Theatre in Sydney. He is best known for commissioning and directing the production of the Australian classic Away by Michael Gow, which had its world premiere in Sydney in 1985.

Janet Holmes Á  Court, Chairman of the Board of Black Swan Theatre Company, said,
“The Board is delighted to announce that Peter Kingston will become the Acting Artistic Director of Black Swan Theatre Company after Andrew Ross leaves to take up his new job. We are very pleased that someone with such a breadth of creative and artistic experience is joining the Company to provide artistic guidance for the interim period, pending the appointment of a new Artistic Director.”

For Black SwanÂ’s recently launched 2003 season, several guest directors have already been announced. Rehearsals are already in progress for the first production of the year, On Our Selection, directed by Rod Hall & Laura Black. West Australian actor/director Jeremy Sims will return to Perth to direct the world premiere of Last Cab To Darwin written by Reg Cribb, which will be seen at the Octagon Theatre before moving to the Sydney Opera House. Chris Edmund, Head of Directing at WAAPA, will be working with Black Swan Theatre Company for the first time to direct the highly acclaimed The Unexpected Man.

Mr Kingston directed Antigone for Black Swan Theatre Company earlier this year. Mr Kingston has stepped down from the Board of Directors of the Company to take up this temporary appointment. Black Swan Theatre Company will move to advertise the position, with the intention of an appointment to the post being made mid-2003.
