?another Theatre in danger

Acorn Theatre is the latest community theatre in danger of going under. As most people know it is officially the smallest theatre in the world & has been recognised by the Guiness Book of Records.

The company leases the premises from the City of Gosnells who have now proposed a new leasing arrangement which President Rosemarie Butler says will just about make it impossible for them to continue.

She is seeking somone with legal knowledge to help in the fight to retain their theatre. Not too many lawyers seem to be into amateur theatre, but is there someone out there who can help?

Maybe someone from Stirling or Kwiwnana who have both had recent difficult negotiations with local councils could offer rosemarie some advice?

Should check out the Arts + Law website, it's a group that specifically gives legal advice to arts groups, they may be able to help, and they have lawyers situated all over the country that will help you out at a very minimal fee... don't have the address on me but i'm sure if you did a search you could find it!

Re: ArtsLaw website

I can vouch for Arts Law. They put Class Act onto a big law firm here in Perth who is handling our case pro bono. I am very thankful, as it is quite scary to be a small not- for- profit organization up against a multi-million dollar Hollywood Studio.

Re: ArtsLaw website

Thanks to the people who have replied to my posting.
I suggested to Rosemarie Butler (Acorn Pres.) that she post an item on this site, but thought I would start the ball rolling following a conversation we had a couple of days ago.
Will get her to read the replies if she has not already done so. In the meantime thanks for suggestions.
