I am artistic director of proteus, a professional touring theatre company resident in Hampshire, UK. I am currently planning a sabbatical for Jan - Mar 2003 which includes some travel and research in Australia.
My particular interests are:
- rural touring to non-theatre venues
- participatory theatre
- developing partnerships with other sectors [eg corporate, voluntary,
public] to deliver community theatre projects
I would like to make contact with individuals/companies who may be able to advise me about:
- companies whose work would be good for me to see
- companies who might be able to offer work-shadowing opportunities to a british director
- any exchange programmes, conferences, seminars that might be appropriate for me to attend
As you can see, my plans are a bit vague at the moment so I need a few leads to help me focus! Hope you can help.

i am respondiging to your email. i am not able to offer you advice being a new kid on the block. However, i have written a play, my first, titled "Caeiphas"(the name of the High Priest)
The drama is about the enemies of Christ - particularly the zealots and the priests of the Jewish Sanhedrin. As far as i know, this is the first time a play has been written, taking this angle of a well known story.
If you are at all interested, i would be happy for you to bring it to production and direct the play when you arrive in Australia, as a live experince on our soil. i will be applying shortly for the use of the "Blue Room" a small 70 seat venue subsidised be the State Government. i note your interest in rural locations and if it proves viable, then, who knows what may follow? Now to a little bit about myself.
i live in the State of Western Australia with my wife and family. i am semi retired, working at a Bank on a part time basis in the city of Perth and at other times i supply wild flowers to a few of the bigger hotels down town.
Again, i am not into theatre and i am unable to address the issues you raised, but if you think i can be of some assistance, then please feel free to reply. Regards, Tom
