RE: FREE: Hamlet @ Green Room

You're absolutely right Jarrod.
We have been remiss, but it's indicative of the state of play in our club.

I don't know how it is with you head honchos at Blak Yak, but at GRADS it's pretty lonely at the top. No pressing shortage of people who want to perform in a play, but incredibly few who want to perform any other kind of role in making the club happen.
It's essentially the Grant and Jonno show, trying to do so much between the two of us.
(Incidentally, Grant is now our President and I the Vice, as of Sunday's AGM)
Our energies have been very much focussed on the recently finished production, to the exclusion of all else, and little details like early notification for the "Green Room" are the kind of things that slip away, even if it should be just a matter of a phone call to get someone else onto it. One's "to do" list gets incredibly long, with the items further up it being genuinely urgent.

I know you have a full time job Jarrod, which earns you my respect because you must put just about every leisure moment into Blak Yak or ITA efforts. I don't have a full time job though I have business interests, which have suffered significantly through neglect in recent years. If I had a 9 to 5, GRADS might well be dissolved by now!
Yet we have survived, even prospered in terms of successful productions, and also tried to encourage increased membership.

"The Green Room" series has been an excellent idea, and very well executed in all aspects (other than publicity perhaps). It has had support from both the ITA and CANWA, and has provided monthly sessions, free to all, with the workshops led by personnel highly respected in their individual fields.
"The Green Room" is not only for GRADS members, it is free to all; and of course we have been hoping that it would lead to lots of new members with different skills.
People interested in make-up, or costume, or set design and construction (though the series has contained many actor-oriented topics as well)... maybe we should schedule one on Drama Club Admin, there's obviously huge gaps in my knowledge...
However, numbers attending these evenings have been very disappointingly low, and the funding we allocated to the venture will be exhausted in another 2 or 3 sessions after tonight's. It is unlikely to be renewed if the Committee feel they are flogging a dead horse and throwing good money after bad.
I urge all and sundry to come and join the discussion of Hamlet tonight. It is likely to range widely and unpredictably through many matters both Shakespearean and more current. You can bet your life Grant Malcolm will have some very interesting areas to steer it into, and The Meddoes reputation for original and sometimes provocative thinking is well-known to any who frequent this site.

THE GREEN ROOM
CityWest Lotteries House 7.30 TONIGHT Weds 27 March
2(or is it 5?) Delhi St. the dead-end of Delhi St. Some people think it's hard to find, but if you go down Delhi St as far as you can go and down the ramp you are in the car park; or park in Delhi St and walk down the ramp, first main door on your left.
To be there or not to be there?.......

I object! As of the GRADS AGM last Sunday correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it become "THE LEAH SHOW" Co-starring Grant, Kerri, Stephen, David, Tony, Rosemary, Anne and Mark. With Special Guest Appearence by Jonno as "The Vice Pres"???!!!

Speaking as one of the vibrant flood of bright young things taking a more administrative role instead of simply being turned down at auditions (I'm looking at you Grant) I encourage all my fellow young theatrical failures; GET YE ON A COMMITTEE!! If you can't join them on stage, at least get yourself in a position to make off with the costume budget half way through rehersals.

It seems to be agreed more or less, that theatre in Perth needs a blood transfusion. So all you young'ns out there; if you arn't willing to do your bit by showing the world your ...um...angst...on stage for Mr Meadows then take your destiny into your own hands and get on the producing end of shows, instead of just complaining that there aren't enough good parts for young people.

Long live Act One Scene One and their ilk and the new improved, younger and more good look'n than ever GRADS COMMITTEE!!!

Good luck tonight. Sorry I can't make it - sounds like fun. In my absence, perhaps someone could ask two burning questions: Is that indeed Meadows cooking up a BBQ with the Eagles in a recent SGIO ad, and, if so, did the Eagles pay him with dollars or kilos?
