RE: Launch Party!
Sharon,
Being one who is involved, albeit on the peripery perifer periphi per... edge of discussions of forming a new theatre group, I am interested to know what type of non-profit making organisation you are. Is it that you plan to make a loss or that all profits get distributed amongts the organisers or directors or cast or what?
Or are you an amateur group with no payment for cast etc.
If anyone from the Act 1 scene 2 is out there, I'd be interested to know how you function in this regard too.
I also note that your up-coming audition has ages from 20 - 45. Is this a 'role' age and you plan to fill them with youth or are you wanting all comers to audition, you don't say?
Do you have your own venue or a permanent hire place or what?
Michael

RE: Launch Party!
Hi Michael
I'll try to answer all your questions...
Pear Shaped Theatre is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act, as a non-profit organisation. This means that profits made by the company are not distributed to members or any "owner", but always go into serving the goals of the company, which are (basically) to create opportunities for young people to be involved in theatre and the arts. We certainly aren't planning to make a loss - in any of our projects we would plan to break even or make a profit, but those proceeds will be used for future projects. We may hire employees if we need to (for example, we might hire a professional lighting technician for a show, or perhaps when we are more established, we will be able to pay the struggling actors who grace our stages, and so on), but in general no member receives any monetary benefit. Our hardworking and tireless committee all volunteer their time and effort to keep PST going!
OK, auditions...
In the audition notices you have probably read, where ages are quoted as something like '20-40 years' then that is the age of the role, not the actor. But Pear Shaped Theatre's aim is to have people involved in our projects and productions, regardless of their age. In any project, if even just one young person gets the opportunity to be involved and gain experience in theatre and the performance arts, then we feel our goals have been achieved. Plus we believe that working with people of all ages and levels of experience is particularly valuable to young people just starting out in the theatre.
And finally, venue...
We don't have a permanent home, but are making use of the vast number of spaces for hire around Perth (and believe me there are heaps!).
Hope that answers all your questions!
Regards,
Sharon
