RE: the Soap Saga Starts
Tue, 4 Dec 2001, 01:09 amJust got home from a wacky, crazy, interesting, spontaneous and hilarious opening "pilot episode" of Soap On A Rope at the Rechabites tonight. Of course, I can't really review it because I'm in it, and also there's not much point telling you about how funny and clever we all are because tomorrow night's "movie length season premiere" will have a slightly different cast, completely different plot, and it could all be crap!
Mind you, some of the audience gets enormous pleasure from seeing some of Perth's prominent performers leap into nothing and land with egg on their faces...so there's something in it for everybody!
Also, there's the brilliant marketing ploy of once you've purchased your first ticket, you can come back later in the season at a much discounted rate to see where your favourite characters have wound up...every night is a new, improvised show.
Tonight's episode highlights saw the small community of 'Archipelego Rise' beset by a swarm of locusts; Gibson Nolte won the improviser's playoff whilst wooing the heart of an audience damsel; Sam Longley shone in any scene he could show off his range of accents; and Mike Frencham was almost engulfed by his 'crack of doom'....
The Secret Life of Us has gone into non-ratings repeats....come and tune in to Soap On A Rope this fortnight, instead!
