Hi, I am desperately looking for an amateur workshop/class (weekly, regular, on going, not a one off full time intensive thing) OR an amateur group to learn with to attend in Perth region. I am not a pro, not at uni, not a kid (33yo professional), and I *miss* acting class, which I used to attend whilst living in London. Can someone help?! Pleaaaaase? Laurent

Help is at hand

Hi Laurent, There are many amateur groups in the Perth area. Depends where you live and how far you are prepared to travel. The theatre group I am part of is called "Stirling players" and we operate at the innaloo community centre, which is not far from Perth. If you are interested, go onto our website www.stirlingplayers.com.au and check us out. If you like us, send us an email, or better still come to our next show which opens very soon! Details are on the website, it is a comedy. Cheers Christine Ellis

More details, please

If you're male - which I'm thinking you are - if you turn up regularly, learn your lines and are half-decent you'll likely get a part somewhere in Perth community theatre. You don't specify which suburb you're in and only registered users can see your mobile number on your profile.

More details

Hi Walter, Thanks for your reply! I live at the limit of Claremont and Cottesloe, but work in the CBD, so ideally around there, but equally if practically (time at which the workshop is ran and transport) feasible, am happy going to Freo or such... I am a bit unsure whether to search for a workshop/class per se (is there any for adult amateurs?) or for an actual amateur acting group where there would be a good element of tuition...

Thanks for the Hand!

Hi Christine, Thanks for the suggestion! Inaloo might not be the most practical, but I am going to check your website! Laurent

The Actors' Hub is looking

The Actors' Hub is looking for a male actor to rehearse and present a scene with one of our Gap students next term. If you are interested or know some one who might be please email us at info@actorshub.net. This is a great opportunity and a great scene.

Pro vs Amateur

A lot of these auditions (I haven't looked at every single one of them) seem to be for professionals?

This Site

This site is all about non-professionals. You will not find many if any professional productions being promoted here. This is all Amateur, Community and Independant Theatre. Certainly, there is a preference for some experience for playing the larger roles, but we are often looking to fill the smaller roles and quite often this gives opportunities for not-so-experienced participants.

Additional

Also, I am guessing you are male, and if so men are in high demand yet at short supply so my advice is give it a go regardless.

You could also ease

You could also ease yourself in gently with a play reading: http://www.theatre.asn.au/classes_and_workshops/2013/play_reading_clybourne_park_by_bruce_norris Joining the Theatre WA Facebook group may also be worthwhile: https://www.facebook.com/groups/255728502417/
