In September 2009 I lodged a partition with the Bayswater council requesting that consideration be given to making the Maylands Hall in Guildford Road Maylands available as a community Theatre venue. I subsequently posted this information on Theatre Australia and started quite an interesting thread with many people registering there interest. This venue has been sitting vacant since the library vacated and moved next door into the Rise. there have been several expressions of interest in the use of the hall since my original request but no action, until now. At the council meeting last night the use of the venue was discussed with a view of its use. A copy of the agenda and information regarding this meeting is available online on the Bayswater Council website, on the banner go to Council drop-box click on council meetings then agendas & minutes 2013, next click on the Agenda & Meeting for 15 April 2013 then Item 7.2.8 the document is 92 pages long and includes a history of expressions of interest etc. In short the councilors requested that the decision stay open for public comment for one month. So! here is our chance, any theatre company, group or individuals interested in a new home / Theatre start contacting the Bayswater Council with your submission / requests. My personal interest is that as an actor, singer, set builder and theatre enthusiast who lives within walking distance of the hall I would love to have a new home group here. I am but one voice and would become actively involved with any group supporting this initiative but we need the critical mass to make it happen. Jim Chantry

Tech Support - Maylands Theatre Concept.

As most of the readers here would be aware, I have been involved in Community Theatre for many years as an Audio Tech. (As well as infrequent forays into Directing and acting).

I am excited by the idea of another venue being created in Perth, particularly one that is so easily accessible and centrally located, and would welcome the opportunity to assist in the establishment and future operations of this venue. I also have it on good authority that a certain "com-eatre friendly" lighting and sound equiptment supply company would be keen to assist as well.

"Partition"? Petition,

"Partition"? Petition, perhaps.

We can help

For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and we can be it

Face Book link

"Social Media" (love it or hate it) has become one of the most important weapons in the arsenal of any publicity officer or advertising company. The outreach potential of this form of electronic word of mouth is easily comparable to a landslide of Pompeian proportions.

With this in mind, I wish to ask all members of, and visitors to, the Theatre Oz website to follow the link below and "like" and "share" the Maylands Town Hall Facebook page.

Every "like" received strengthens the bid to secure the Hall as an affordable "Communal Performing Arts Space" for the independent and homeless theatre companies of Perth.

Thank you to those that have supported this project so far and to those who are spreading the word on it's behalf. Let's see if we can't get the page to go viral.

I'll do it

But I live in Adelaide so it may not help. Good luck. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au www.moorebooks.net.au
