It is with deep sorrow that we farewell George Hackett.  George was a founding member of Kalamunda Dramatic Society (KADS), and long time member and committee member of the Independent Theatre Association.

George suffered a major stroke on Saturday 3rd December whilst about to enjoy "Little Women" at Roleystone Theatre.  Unfortunately the stroke was massive, and his life support was turned off mid-to-late morning on Sunday, after his daughter in Tasmania arrived.

George left us today, Monday 5th December at 4.45pm.

George and wife Terry Hackett are well known in WA's community theatre having won several Finley Awards and worked at various theatres, facilitated workshops and were well remembered also for their Theatre Program on KCR 102.5FM radio.

As a Producer/Director team they have won many awards including two Finley Awards for the best play in WA, Same Time Next Year (1999) and Barmaids (2003) and the Finley Award for best musical in WA, Nunsense (2003).

Other awards have included best production at the WA Dramafest, Prison Break (1980) and Man with the Plastic Sandwich (2000). Many best play awards at KADS including at Marloo, Wallflowering (2003), as well as numerous awards for best set, costume, stage managing, ensemble etc.

In 2009 they produced a cabaret, Chicks & Flicks at DownStairs at the Maj which had sell out houses every night.

George & Terry have conducted many courses both at KADS and elsewhere. They have been 'Directors in Residence' at Albany, Margaret River and Port Hedland. Their last production together was The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband this year at KADS, which was a completely sold out season and then toured to Midland Junction Arts Centre for a 2 show 'encore performance'.

Our love and thoughts are with Terry and their families at this very sad time.  xox

A true gentleman with a love of theatre and a heart of pure gold

A true gentleman...you will be sadly missed. Words cannot truly express my sadness at his passing and my thoughts are with Terry and the whole family. I can only say that I am proud and one of the lucky many who were able to be a part of a George and Terry production. Thankyou for everything you ever did for community theatre and just being a bloody good bloke.

Sorry I can't be there in person...

...but my thoughts are with you all today. I feel as if I knew George in a previous life - and I hope I cross paths with him in the next. I will raise a glass or two to George as I watch the sunset at Cable Beach this evening. Warm regards, Pete Nettleton
