SPAMMERS

This website is currently being hammered by Spammers attempting to post dodgy links to you any way they can. While there are constantly making attempts, presently it is quite extensive. This will possibly cause slow access times and connection issues.

The Spam filters have been extremely busy of late with many new flags being added in past two weeks. So far, very few SPAM items have actually gotten through into the forums.

If you post an item and it gets automatically flagged as SPAM then please rest assured that one of the admin team will review it when they can. If your post gets Deleted as suspected SPAM (you should get a notice if this happens) then you can either try modifying your post, or request assistance through the Feedback service.

If you see something that you suspect is SPAM, please report it. Also note that the Report SPAM option should only be used for SPAM, not as an attempt to remove a post. Reporting SPAM posts will flag (but not remove) the item with admin who will then review it. If it is SPAM, action will be taken. If it is not SPAM, the item will remain in the forums.

That is all.

I've been making good use

I've been making good use of the SPAM button of late. It seems to be the big players - Google, Bing and Yahoo as far as I can see. War of the Search Engines? www.meltheco.org.au

Nah, testing the waters

They are testers. Most sites will not apply spam filters on Search Engines so these make for great SPAM Trap Testers. In fact, the number of Search Engine SPAM we have had are minute compared to the auto motive, medical supply and naughty girl attempts.

I've noticed that we will get a handful of the Browser Posts followed by a flood of all the other stuff. We have even had some overseas Lamp distributor try to set up shop here.

So, do I need to mark those posts as SPAM? Or am I wasting my time? www.meltheco.org.au

Technically...

They are still spam and we have filters in place that will try to pick them up, but they are also often legit postings so this is an area where we are dependant on user assistance. Yes, these should be reported, and no you would not be wasting your time.

Fairly certain it's an actual human too, and not just a bot. +1 vote for a turing test in order to use this site (unless registered and logged in of course).

Update

Just an update. We are currently recording between 150 to 300 attempted SPAM attacks on a daily basis. Currently, we filtering 99% of them. There have also been many attempts to post spam to service pages rather than the forums. Our filters are very complex with a strong focus on the web links. If your post gets flagged as SPAM, please be patient as we will review them all. If your post is DELETED as spam, please use the feedback service and let us know.

Today we had the return of

Today we had the return of an old favourite, the registered lady looking for friends via private messages. However, having posted to an admin officer, they have been blocked. That does not mean that they will not try again. If you get any suspect private messages, any, report them via the feedback service and include the message also.
