Film & Television Institute Opening Day: Screen Acting & Filmmaking Courses Start AUGUST

The event will feature talks by teaching staff, a tour of the facilities and a chance for you to meet students from previous classes.
Study at FTI means learning at a hub of WA film industry. In addition to training, th...e Institute offers support and funding for professional filmmakers, equipment hire and screening programs. When combined with our diverse group of course offerings, this makes for a creative environmt perfect for kickstarting your career in film. Application for all courses is by interview, with Screen Acting also requiring an audition.
Commencing on August 29, FTI’s midyear intake of our DIGITAL PRODUCTION (Diploma Of Screen And Media) course will run in a part time mode, with classes taking place in the evening and on weekends so as to fit around the schedules of people already in full time employment. The thirty week course offers an intensive, hands-on introduction to the processes involved in creating film, giving filmmakers a feel for everything from directing to editing and sound. The course often acts as a propulsive kick start into working in independent film, as evidenced by the quantity of WA filmmakers who have had their start in the course. The next full time intake starts March.
FTI is also accepting applications for its’ Certificate IV in SCREEN ACTING, also starting on August 29. This unique course is thirty weeks of intensive acting education, run by head lecturer Fern Nicholson, who also designed the course. It is unique within WA as a dedicated education for screen actors, based around the techniques of Lee Strasberg, this course has become very popular with WA actors and has been noted as raising the bar for film acting in Perth generally.
Enquiries are open our 2012 intake for our popular part time DOCUMENTARY (Diploma Of Screen And Media – Documentary) course, often the first choice for students who are already working full time jobs in other fields. Students create one major feature along with individual projects, getting the vocational training they need to forge careers in WA’s thriving documentary industry.
The institute also offers a range of seminars and short courses ranging from Filmmaking Fundamentals courses designed for beginners through to Professional Development courses.
