Follow up

Here is the poster that some claim is offensive;

Titus Poster

After doing a Google search, I think this is quite tame when compared to some others.

What exactly is offensive?

I'm not seeing it - is it(swoon) the fact that her lips are sewn shut? Looking forward to seeing this

Got me Murray

I just went for a walk through the city and saw at least a dozen other posters which are more offensive to my mind than this one. Honestly, people complain too much and I think some enjoy it.

Or they need new batteries

I suppose

I suppose it's the reference to cosmetic surgery that upset someone. I am offended by suggestions that cosmetic surgery is necessary in order for a person (usually female) to be seen as good enough. Personally, I don't get that from this poster, and in fact it intrigues me as to what that image will have to do with the production. As this is an all-female company, I am doubly intrigued. Their publicity (& the free extra publicity due to - yes, once again! the controversy) is paying off already :-) Looking fwd to seeing it!

I typed out the

I typed out the article: Inside Cover, The West Australian, Thursday April 21, 2011 Art of flogging tickets The poster promoting the debut performance of a new all-female theatre company called HIVE has got tongues wagging. It depicts a woman with her mouth sewn and some cafes around Perth have either refused or been reluctant to display the poster. Considering the play is the Shakespearean Titus Andronicus, which is all about self-mutilation, barbarism and stuff like that, the poster could have been much worse. “It’s interesting with posters as to what people find offensive,” said Kerry Richards, who runs The Poster Girls, the company circulating the offending image. “There’s just been this ‘eergh’ reaction to it. It might be OK to put it up, but not n the eye line of customers or on the counter.” IC: Is nudity generally a no-no? Kerry: Definitely. For the record, IC is not in the slightest bit offended and thinks there should be more of it – art, that is. Titus will be at the Subiaco Arts Centre from May 11, for those who like a bit of self flagellation. Gary Adshead

So the only 'controversy'

So the only 'controversy' is the one mentioned by the company itself? Sounds like a journalist in want of an angle to me.

They were probably offended

They were probably offended with the word Titus, as in Tightarse, geddit?
