Auditions - The Country Wife
Wed, 2 Feb 2011, 03:33 pmThe Country Wife
By William Wycherley
Directed by Paul Treasure
Audition to be held on Monday 21st February at Koorliny Arts Centre, Sulphur Rd, Parmelia
Season runs 21st April - 7th May 2011
This Restoration Comedy from 1673, one of the funniest and bawdiest ever written. So bawdy in fact that it was banned from being performed between 1753 and 1924!
The aptly named Mr Horner has recently returned to London, and has spread the rumour that he has contracted “The French Disease” and is no longer able to perform in the bedroom. The husbands of London now feel comfortable leaving him alone with their wives… and their wives discover that he is more than capable of performing!
Cast 8 men, 7 women
Roles ranging in size from leads down to cameos
The two major leads are:
Mr Horner – I need an actor who can be, quite frankly, “Sex On Legs!”
Mrs Margery Pinchwife – I need a younger actress (18-25?) who is able to mimic other actors, and could convincingly dress up as a boy!
There is considerable flexibility in the ages of the characters
Due to the raunchy nature of the piece, actors below the age of 16 will not be auditioned!
Keep an eye on here for more details
