Extra audition plus Info for Maul of the Dead audition
Tue, 18 Jan 2011, 01:41 pmExtra auditon for Maul of the Dead
I have had a few people ask to audition but have tickets to Big Day Out. Apparently my audition day clashes. If you can't make the sunday audition I am holding an extra auditon on Monday 7th @ 7.30pm. It would be good if you contact me so I know who is coming on the Monday evening..
Maul of the Dead Audition info
The audition is as non-threatening as I can get it. I personally hate auditions and know how daunting they can be particularly when it is a new theatre company that you haven't been with before, or are a new comer to theatre.
I tend to make my auditions as fun as possible and get everyone to mix. So please don't think you will be left out.
A list of the character is below. There is no reason (script wise) that Frank has to be African American but need an American accent. The Main/ lead characters are Frank, Lewis, Donna, Wendy & John. The other characters are small roles. The smaller roles turn into zombies, as do most of the lead roles eventually.
There is a dance at the end (I may add more) where everyone gets to dance. If you do not want to dance (maybe you have health reasons etc) that’s fine. I will find something else for you to do. There will be three levels of dancing, so if you are not a dancer that is also fine.
There will be physical scenes with fighting, so if you have any injuries or health problems, let me know and we will see how we can work around it.
Sunday afternoon will be our main rehearsal day with all attending. Costume workshops and Make-up workshops will be on the Sunday as well. Sundays will start from 3pm. Leads will be required every Wednesday evening from 7pm. Zombies won’t need to come on Wednesdays for the first few weeks. The dancing and combat rehearsal will be advised. These may also be on the Sunday. If necessary I will workshop particular scenes on Monday evenings. This will be negotiated with those who are involved in the particular scene/workshop.
The script is not rocket science but should be a lot of fun. The humour will be carried mainly by the zombies and with character acting (depending on your sense of humour)
Zombies interact/attack/fight/die intermittently during the play. Some are killed (very dramatically) Zombies start from when the audience is arriving in their cars lurking in bushes etc. Some Zombies will also be doing Front of House. Some that will be Zombies, will start off as Army soldiers protecting the audience as the come in. The Army soldiers die off as we get closer to the start of the play. Frank, Lewis & Usherette start before the audience goes into the auditorium. And of course they get to dance and maybe even sing (sort of). You don’t need to be a dancer. Not all have to dance.
Auditions will be mainly theatre exercises in groups & pairs. I like to start with a game to get everyone to mix and relax a bit. Cold reading will be minimal lines with time to formulate character. I will probably throw in some dancing as a group just for fun. Wear comfortable clothing (no skirts unless you have shorts under them) Bring a drink and something to eat.
