Please note that we have had another Spammer attempt to infiltrate our site. Some of you may have received a message along the lines of the example posted below. Please remove all messages from this user. They have also been blocked from the site.

I recommend Grant take a look at this; I've previously banned two members of similar names doing the same thing. Perhaps thre's a common thread which will make banning a little more permanent.

Appart from the general content of the messages, there is nothing consistent about them. Previous postings have sourced from Russia, Europe, etc. This one came from Dakar, Africa (apparently).

Also, I don't think SPAM filters can be applied to Private Mail. Maybe this can be addressed in any future upgrades but not likely here.

Just my thoughts.

I didn't mean spam filters.

I didn't mean spam filters. I meant blocking IPs or something. Given that I'm 'at work' I haven't taken a deep look in the backend, I just thought I'd mention the similarities just in case.

Private message spams

Thanks for the follow up on this Jeff and Na.

Just for everyone's info, I have made a few small changes that will limit private messages so that each user can only send one every six minutes - rather than one very six seconds using a bot/script as susanbaby was doing.

It won't stop the spammers from trying but it will put a dent in the impact they can make.
