What are you doing this weekend?
Fri, 13 Aug 2010, 09:35 amCome and see 'Frog Soup' in Kwinana. Come on, it's not that far. It's just down the Kwinana Hwy, turn off at Thomas St exit. Address below. Google it. Really nice venue. They have a Bar & Food cafe. And of course the show is great. BONUS!
This is the last weekend.
It's funny, it's heartbreaking, it's inspiring, it's insightful, it's witty, just great fun with plenty of brain fodder.
An Adult concept. Some course language.

‘Frog Soup’ is a very funny Black Comedy with lots of laughs. This very clever and innovative script portrays the character traits of the one person as individual people. “We as a whole, are the sum of our parts.” What if our parts, our logic, our practical side, our memories, took on a life of their own? Is our lustful side in sync with regret? Is it really Esteems fault that Independence is getting fat? This funny but poignant Black Comedy leads through a mine field of self mutilation and oblivious self discovery without anyone getting shot – Maybe.
'Frog Soup' hurls the rollercoaster of life from the heights of hilarity to the depths of despair. Be it laughter or tears, you know you’re alive.
The Frog Soup characters are trying to deal with a relationship upheaval that has reached crisis point, as best they can. Can they rescue themselves from the quagmire? Practical doesn’t have many tools and seems to think that a hammer or a bit of glue will fix anything. Logical can’t get the pieces of the puzzle to fit because everyone keeps fiddling with it. Although Independence is under a mandated gag order, Cynical is going to thump her if she doesn’t sit still. Is Esteem is just being a sooky la la? Possession loves his pretty shiny things and is not going to let Strength throw his stuff away. Lust feels miss-understood, and is it Memories fault that Regret can’t remember anything the way it really happened?
Frog Soup is an introspective journey and dissection of the self. Who are we really? Do we all have an ideal self? Because I would have done it differently. The play has a psychological undertow that sweeps the characters through a relationship dilemma with a fresh and comical outlook. Although Frog Soup’s surface is very light-hearted & comical the underlying motion leads to the discovery that we are all products of our past and that we can make choices, no matter how difficult. To deal or not to deal, to see or not to see, to recognise or to ignore. Sounds heavy? Not really. Frog soup is entertaining, provocative and will definitely give you something to think about.
The One Act version of Frog Soup was entered & performed at the Southwest One Act Drama Festival in 2009 where is won Best Production and Best Director. It was also entered into the State Dramafest 2009 (ITA) where it won the Rob De Vaak Most Innovative Production, Peter Mann Costume award, Plus other minor awards.
