Just a friendly reminder to all out there to watch your security. When creating an account, it is in your best interest to create a password that is not easy to guess. There are a number of things you can do the improve your chances here and they include;

do not use words or names that are immediately associated with who you are (like your username, real name, address, etc)
include a variety of numbers, letters and icons (* $ # etc) where you can
increase the length of your password - 4 characters is much easier to guess than say 12
avoid using complete words of any kind or at least bre@k +hem (u)p wi+h 0+her characters
change it regularly

Why do I post this? Well it would appear that someone has been trying guess peoples passwords, including mine, so I thought it a timely reminder.

Bots do this all the time.

Bots do this all the time. Generally I think they are looking for bot/manually created but fake accounts. Just as spammers hit a usual list of sites, they also share lists of fake account names and passwords. If you look at the admin list, most of the attempts to login are for very dubious account names which would only be created by spammers/scammers. Your points are valid of course, but I just want to point out that it's not overly concerning, especially as on this website, the worst a bot/scammer can do is fiddle with your bio page or post crappy stuff. Something like Paypal you should worry more about, or your online banking, or something that links to extremely personal info or admin accounts (ie. logging into your own website). EDITED TO ADD: I've added this to the FAQ.

Yes, we do get a flood of bots and I did check for that. This attempt was quite clearly human and not automated. It's all in the IP.
