SECOND SAMUEL - opens next week !!!
Featuring:  Guest American actor Nat Martin with Tyler Jones, Ray Egan, Nicole George, Elizabeth Jansen, Breeahn Jones, Chris Juckes, Kevin Langoulant, Beverley Lawrence, Phil Lord and Raul Torres.

“Second Samuel,” a Southern comedy by Pulitzer Prize nominee Pamela Parker, opens April 29 at the Subiaco Arts Centre and will be one of the finest quality productions of the Perth theatre calendar for 2010.

Second Samuel is a small town in Georgia; rebuilt after General Sherman burnt the first one. It’s where the men spend their leisure time at the local watering hole and the women are gossiping at the local hair and beauty emporium.

Omaha Nebraska, chats with her beauty shop customers with great delight while her husband Frisky, runs the local watering hole with a firm hand and won’t put up with Mr Mozel’s banter.

American guest actor Nat Martin, who has been performing the role of the sympathetic “U.S.”, Frisky’s employee, since 1987 throughout America, is a huge coup for this Australian premiere.

Tyler Jones brilliantly portrays the role of “B-Flat”, a simple-minded and thoroughly lovable native of Second Samuel, whose running narrative ties the scenes together.

Set in the late 1940s, the people in the sleepy town of Second Samuel are preparing for the funeral of their beloved friend Miss Gertrude, but their tranquility is suddenly shattered when deep secrets are revealed, making it a summer no one will ever forget. The townsfolk find themselves on a journey of self discovery that all human beings need to be accepted for who they are and that it’s ok to be different.

Director Sue Hayward along with her inspiring cast deserve large audiences for this touching comedy that covers racism, prejudice, fears and relationships which are just as relevant today in any town or city. This will undoubtedly be one of the biggest hits for Perth theatre in 2010.

This touching Southern comedy is about family, diversity and strength with a unique blend of charm, wit and humour. Second Samuel is a journey of discovery and the message comes home that no matter who you are, it is okay to be different.

Second Samuel has received rave reviews from American theatre critics, been on three national tours, countless high school and community theatre productions, sold out every performance at South Carolina’s Spoleto International Arts Festival, been off Broadway, has been produced at Virginia’s historic Barter Theatre, and named best original script by the Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper and nominated for a Pulitzer.
