The Graduate Dramatic Society (GRADS) is looking for a director for next season's Summer Shakespeare at the New Fortune Theatre. For anyone who has never been to the New Fortune (shame on you!) it is an open air courtyard at UWA, that when it was built someone noticed it had the same shape and dimensions as the Fortune Theatre of Shakespeare's day. The university, rather than ignoring this, decided to build a stage in the area and use it as an occasional performance space. GRADS have been fortunate in being able to stage a Shakespeare season here (around March) for many years. So if you are interested as a director in staging an open air Shakespeare in a fabulous venue, this is your chance. GRADS are asking for submissions for the 2011 season. Please email Stephen Lee (mrstephenlee@optusnet.com.au) with details of who you are, the Shakespeare play you wish to stage, and a brief (1500 words or so) description of the directorial approach you envisage for the production. Submissions should be received by May 15th.
