'Stormworld' comes to life this weekend

Stormworld, WA's largest "home-grown" drama to date, premieres on Australian television, Saturday April 17 on Channel Nine at 10:30am in WA and Adelaide and 11:00am in the Eastern states.

The science fiction drama series which involved shooting in Broome, Wanneroo, Singapore and Vancouver, premiered last year in primetime on Canada's sci-fi network, Space Channel.

The young cast was recognised with several nominations at the Young Artists Awards - described as the Oscars for actors under 21 years - which were announced on April 11.  Calum Worthy won Best Performance in a TV series (Comedy or Drama) Leading Young Actor for his role in the series. Other nominations included an ensemble nomination for ‘Outstanding Young Performers in a TV Series' category and local Perth actress Valentina Barron, nominated for ‘Leading Young Actress'  and Andrew Jenkins, who was also nominated for ‘Leading Young Actor'.

Stormworld was produced by Perth's Great Western Entertainment and Brightlight Pictures of Vancouver. The principal investor was Screen Australia and the series was produced with the participation of the Media Development Authority (Singapore) and Theatre Red in association with ScreenWest and Lotterywest, the Nine Network Australia and CTV Limited.
