Men Wanted!

The Diamond Valley Singers committee responded to the request to stage another G&S during our 25th year, and we chose Iolanthe. A wonderful sing for a large male voice chorus, as well as with the fairies! For those who are not familiar, the men are members of the British House of Lords - Peers of the realm - and are dressed in gorgeous capes lined with (fake) ermine, and wear crowns, sorry, no tights guys! Their entrance chorus (March of the Lords) is one of the G&S highlights. So far we have only 7 men, and we want at least 20, hopefully more. Rehearsals have been running two weeks. There are karaoke files available to help you learn all the parts, and rehearsal CDs are available on request. What is the commitment? Wednesday night until the opening - July 2. Sunday afternoons from May 16 until the show. Eight performances from July 3 - July 11 at Warrandyte High School. If you are interested please come to the next rehearsal, at Diamond Creek Uniting Church, Wensley Street at 8 pm. and bring a friend. If you are not currently a member you would need to pay $50 for an annual membership, mainly covering insurance. You might then like to continue singing with us in Messiah in November. There will also be a $50 show fee for Iolanthe, due when we start rehearsing on Sundays. For this you get to perform in wonderful costume in some of Sullivan's best music, singing some of Gilbert's funniest words, as he pokes fun at Parliament! What a way to spend election year!
