What is a play reading?

A play reading is where we sit in a group, with a script in hand, and 'perform' it. Usually we take turns reading different characters, and the facilitor oftens leads discussions about the play - maybe about how the playwright has explored certain themes, maybe evaluating options for how the play might be staged. Anyone involved in theatre will take something away from a play reading, but it's a particularly good vehicle for newcomers to make contact with the theatre community and gain confidence performing in a non-threatening environment. Our play readings last year attracted a good number of people, and we're looking forward to seeing them grow and become a permanent fixture on our calendar for many years to come. No need to book - just turn up and participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Hope to see you there! Garry D Old Mill Theatre
