Harbour Theatre's 'New' Abode
Wed, 30 Dec 2009, 04:15 pmDear All,
The following plea from the heart is reproduced from an email sent to me- among many others. Anyone who can help, please do so.
As you are all aware the theatre in the Princess May Building is now just a skeleton of its former glory as we move to our new premises in the Port Cineaste building. This is thanks to the huge efforts of the big team of people that came down on the Sunday after Oliver Twist finished (see latest newsletter). HOWEVER, there is a huge amount of work still to be completed and the people who have been working hard over the last week and especially over the extraordinarily hot Christmas weekend cannot finish this project by themselves. The stage flooring and proscenium arch now needs to be taken to Port Cineaste – everything is very heavy and Brian, Harry, Matt, Phil and Peter cannot lift all the panels by themselves. They also need help to take down the proscenium arch. The easy bit is taking all this down – the hard bit is getting it into the new building. Many hands make light work so if you have a few hours to spare on Saturday 2nd January from 9.00am please consider spending a little time helping your theatre make this very important move.
There is also so much to do in the new building – the costume racks need to be taken upstairs to the old projection room, the desk in the green room needs to come down to the office, the bench on the ground floor in Port Cineaste needs to go upstairs etc etc etc. Everything is heavy and/or awkward and we need as many able-bodied people as possible to help. In addition and possibly the most important the stage flooring needs to be put into place in the new premises. We have until 15th January to be completely out of the Princess May Building and until opening night of our first season on 4th March to construct a workable theatre in the Port Cineaste building. This is only 6 WEEKS away and Brian, Harry, Matt, Peter, Phil and myself cannot do it by ourselves. Please come and be part of a new era for Harbour Theatre – everything you can do makes a difference no matter how small.
Please contact Brian Mahoney on 9310 1035 or 0415 847 087 if there is another time you can help if Saturday doesn’t suit.
Have a happy and safe New Year and may 2010 bring you all of life’s best.
Best wishes
Nicola Bond (Harbour President)
