We’re getting ready for 2010 so now is the time to apply! This is a chance for you to show your ability to write, direct, devise and stand alone with the attention of an audience. Applications are chosen based on how exciting and original the concept is. So get out of that comfort zone, break some ground and make a name for yourself! In February and March 2009, 35 new short solo works hit the stage. Over five weeks Solo Spot was part of The Blue Room’s Summer Nights festival. It was an array of theatre, circus, poetry, song, stage magic and manic invention. Many of the solos went on to have bigger lives, such as Luke Milton and Arielle Gray’s “Nobody Cares but you” which has now had a season as a full length show at The Blue Room, and already has its eyes on an Eastern Coast tour. What we’re looking for: Brand new original solo performances with duration between 5 and 15 minutes. (Maximum!) Work created alone, by pairs or even groups of artists; as long as only one person performs. Strange, fun, experimental, musical, dramatic, innovative and/or edgy work. Applications from a range of experience levels. The freshly emerging and mid-career artists will all be considered, as long as they come with a new idea to try out. Performances focused on the performer! No more set or costume than you can carry by yourself, on and off the stage. What we offer you: Two nights performance at The Blue Room in Feb or March 2010. A (compulsory) group workshop to air and articulate your work two weeks before it hits the stage. An honorarium to thank you for being part of Solo Spot. The chance to meet other artists and to support and evaluate their creative ideas while networking. This is your chance to plant the seed of a new work so don’t miss out. Your application should include: Your contact details A one page CV or half page bio for each artist involved A script for performance OR half page description of proposed work A half page description of your plan for creating and executing your work All applications to be snail mailed or hand delivered by November 20, 2009 to SOLO SPOT PO BOX 8369 Perth Business Centre 6849 Please speak to Project Co-ordinator Jeffrey Jay Fowler about your application before sending it in. You can contact him via jeffreyjayfowler@gmail.com or give him a call on 0439 913 339.
