As reported here, and this week on the front page of both of Fremantle's local papers, Harbour Theatre may have to move from the Princess May Building. While negotiations and discussions are still under way between the Fremantle Education Centre, Fremantle City Council and Harbour Theatre we need your help and support. Without an alternative, and suitable venue for us to perform within the Fremantle region we face the very real (but unwanted) prospect of closing and joining the ranks of other community programs that have recently been closed in Fremantle (ie. history museum, car museum, energy museum). We need to maintain the pressure on the Fremantle Council and ask all our friends in the ITA to help us. As I'm not sure how to add links to this website, I've placed a list of the Fremantle Elected members on the Harbour Theatre web site (www.harbourtheatre.org.au). Please contact them and show the council that losing Harbour Theatre would be a sad day indeed. Thank you for your support Ciao Rob Tagliaferri

help Save Harbour Theatre

The ITA has sent all member clubs a letter outlining Harbour's plight and asking for their help.  We do not know how many of our fellow clubs have responded to Fremantle Council, We know that some of you have.

Anything that you can do we ask you to do- and do it now. PLEASE.

You don't know if you'll be in the same plight yourselves one day!

Council Meeting

Hi all, There's a Fremantle Council Meeting next week - Wednesday 23rd September @ 6pm - and we need to keep the pressure up on the council, so I encourage all of you that are able to attend to do so. The situation for Harbour is still very dire and we need to show the council that the community care, otherwise... Well, let's not dwell on that just yet. The Council offices are located up the winding stairs on the OUTSIDE at the rear of the Council building (behind the Town Hall). You need to be there by 5.30pm if you want to speak/ask questions during the meeting (questions have to be written on the sheets provided beforehand). Or just come to show your support. Hope to see you there. Ciao Rob

Not sure that the port is available...

mmm. Not sure that the port is available. Yes, there are lots of buildings, but considering that the car museum and several other groups have all been recently kicked out I doubt that the FPA would then be willing to help us. According to the local papers the FPA have plans for the buildings on the wharf - not to mention the ongoing plans for the ING redevelopment, but I'll pass on your suggestion to the Committee Ciao Rob

Have the people running for

Have the people running for mayor and the council positions been approached? Have any of those people said they will help Harbour Theatre? i.e. are they prepared to do anything?

Have you started a petition

Have you started a petition to present to the council?

Have you started a petition

Yes they have had one running for some weeks now

JoeMcFri, 18 Sept 2009, 08:56 am

FPA not only control or own

FPA not only control or own warf buildings in the harbour, but a lot of the outer  area in fremantle.

There again I'm sure the Phoenix theatre option is worth exploring, while retaining the Harbour banner & interest. Even if it's just some where to perform, in Hamilton Hill, while still rehearsing in the freo area.

So where can people find

So where can people find this petition and add their name, address and signature to it? I've seen a form letter on this site but no petition; is there a PDF link so it can be downloaded?
NormaFri, 18 Sept 2009, 03:34 pm

so where can people find

Go to their web-site and you will find contact details

www.harbour.org.au

or email President Nicola Bond at nbond@westnet.com.au

The website is:

The website is: www.harbourtheatre.org.au. You'd think if they were serious about a petition they'd have it available for download on the site, or some mention of it somewhere. There's nothing about a petition anywhere on the site.
HarbourFri, 18 Sept 2009, 11:38 pm

Yes we are serious

hmm, yes we are serious - however, online petitions are never the best way as you lose track of how many copies there are, who has downloaded them, and then no one ever sends them back in time so they can actually be presented. Much better having the personal touch and actually being able to talk to people about our prediciment. Hence the petition was started a couple of weeks ago for people to sign at our current production (Move Over Mrs Markham). If you are so eager to sign it, then come down to the theatre, but you'd better hurry as tomorrow (Saturday 19th) is the last night...

This may help Robtag? It is

This may help Robtag? It is from the American Association of commity theatre website - but they have a few good ideas occasionly, especialy as they are big on theatre/arts advocacy issues. From how much a local comeatre can impact on the  sourding commercial community.

You can modify the results to suit your groups locality, interest & logistics;-http://ww3.artsusa.org/information_services/research/services/economic_impact/005.asp#calculator
