Jeff Goldblum Hoax

I can confirm that Jeff Goldblum is fine, happily living in his home in the US. The story that is circulating about him falling from a mountain while shooting a film in NZ is false (he's totally not even in NZ) and has actually been circulated at least twice before in 1999 and 2006. Those internet rumour mongers - I tell you! Apparently the cop shops in NZ have been inundated with calls from concerned fans, so it was a well presented hoax! It's very sad about Mr. Jackson and Ms Fawcett though - as Mutley said - whatever they may have done in their private lives, this is a major loss to the performing arts community around the world :( For those interested to know, Ms Fawcett had been struggling with cancer and had allowed a film-maker to document her battle. Reports indicate that the documentary will go ahead, but no release date has been set as yet. "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." Scott Adams

On Yahoo News!

Twitter and bloggers have got the rumour mill spinning in top speed today with internet reports that Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett aren't the only celebrities to die today.

According to reports on Twitter.com actors Harrison Ford and Jeff Goldblum have also died, Goldblum's fate apparently occurring in New Zealand.

The reports spun out of control when actress Demi Moore wrote on her Twitter page: "I just heard Jeff Goldblum may have died today too!!! Can anyone confirm that?"

Then a link from website Media Fetcher was sent around the web 'confirming' the reports.

"Actor Jeff Goldblum died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - June 25, 2009.

"Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available.

"The accident occured at aproximatly (sic) 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12). Additional details and information will be forthcoming."

Meanwhile other Twitter feeds said Harrison Ford has been lost at sea.

Celebrity gossip hound Perez Hilton has slammed the rumours saying:

"I keep getting tons and tons of emails about Jeff Goldblum. Can his publicist please release a statement to just stop these rumors?"

And fellow actor Kevin Spacey finally put the rumours to bed by saying on his Twitter account:

"Jeff Goldblum is alive and well. I just spoke to his manager. Stop these stupid rumors."

No actual media outlets are confirming either death.

The Goldblum rumour may sound familiar, the 'falling off a cliff' death was used when Tom Cruise was filming The Last Samurai in New Zealand in 2002.

Humour at ones-self

No insult intended towards Ms Fawcett and Mr Jackson - you gotta love man who can laugh at himself... Apparently Jeff Goldblum is very saddened by the death of himself.

Shades of Tomfoolery...

I wonder if Mr Goldblum is a Tom Lehrer fan... Mr Lehrer takes great delight in collecting obituaries published after erroneous reports of his demise. But then, of course, the man has a deliciously wicked sense of humour!

Well

After reading his own obituary in a newspaper mark Twain wrote to the editor saying "Reports of my Death have been greatly exaggerated." After it happened a second time he was reported to have written to a friend saying "It is not usually given to a man to have read his own obituary twice." Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au
