Hi everyone, Opening this Friday at the Dolphin Theatre is a sensational double bill from the Graduate Dramatic Society (GRADS), Chekhov's "The Proposal" and Schaffer's "Black Comedy". I had the pleasure of watching both of these in rehearsal late last week and they are gut-bustingly funny. Please come along - I don't think you'll be disappointed. Some more information on each play below, but the important details are that they are running this Friday and Saturday (26-27 June), and then Wednesday to Saturday for the next two weeks (1-4 and 8-11 July) at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale via BOCS: http://www.bocsticketing.com.au/events/double_bill.shtml THE PROPOSAL- by Anton Chekhov, a jest in one act: Directed by Jo Williams, The Proposal is a family farce set amongst the pre-revolutionary Russian provinces: When young hypochrondriac Lomov (Cameron Clark) pays a visit to his neighbours, his clumsy attempts to propose to Chubukov's (Barry Park) daughter Natalya (Michaela Savina) end in comic disaster. Chekhov beautifully spoofs the ridiculous awkardness of first romance, a father's hopes for his spinster daughter and the idiotic greed of neighbours and their petty disagreements. Before there was Jerry Seinfield there was Chekhov's hilarious comedy about nothing (and everything)! This three-hander will open June 26th in a double for GRADS alongside Peter Shaffer's Black Comedy directed by Meredith Daniel! BLACK COMEDY - by Peter Schaffer Join Brindsley Miller (Cameron Clark) and his fiancee Carol Melkett (Bree Stanaway) as they spend an evening attempting to impress Carol's father (Stephen Greenacre) and convince millionaire Georg Bamberger (Robert Whyte) to invest in some of Brindsley's art work. Unfortunately things don't quite go according to plan, and when their small and cluttered flat is plunged into darkness, hilarity ensues. Among the chaos we meet Brindsley's neighbours (Bethwyn Legg & Barry Park), an ex-girlfriend (Michaela Savina) and eventually a man to fix the fuse. Nothing is what it seems in this hilarious, one-act farce by acclaimed playwright Sir Peter Shaffer, directed by Meredith Daniel.

Rob and I went to see this

Rob and I went to see this double bill last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was so funny, and there was a sense of comedic history about it too. I've written a review in the review section here. This production needs to be seen by anyone interested in comedy and or theatrical history.
