DEATH OF A MURDERER Based on the novel by Rupert Thomson. Adapted for the stage by director Matt Penny The Blue Room Theatre 16 June - 4 July 2009 8pm. Call 9227 7005 to book tickets or by email www.blueroom.org.au Featuring Chris McCafferty, Kingsley Judd, Michael Rae, Nina Deasley and Helen Angell Britain’s most hated woman is dead, and Constable Billy Tyler has been called in to guard the notorious child-killer’s body. During his lonely “graveyard” shift, in the eerie silence of the hospital morgue, the dead woman’s presence begins to assert itself, rousing Billy’s own demons. As the night wears on, Billy’s troubles and anxieties acquire a new unexpected significance, forcing him to consider whether we are all just one step away from being monsters. This is the first stage adaptation of award-winning UK author Rupert Thomson’s work, based on his novel Death of a Murderer (short-listed, 2007 Whitbread Book of the Year). The play takes an intimate look at an extraordinary moment in crime history, and the inner workings of the human soul. “If he was really in that house, do you honestly think he would have got out again?” Quotes from Ali Taubut in the West Australian... "Helen Angell's performance is mesmerising." "Kingsley Judd's performance as Trevor is restrained, tense and deeply moving, a beautiful snapshot of the Hindley/Brady MO." "a touching performance by McCafferty." Quotes from Gordon on this site... "The heart wrenching description of Trevor’s experience by Kingsley Judd is a masterpiece." "Director Matt Penny gathered a fabulous team of actors, who without blood, gore and any gratuitous descriptions of violence, really make your skin creep." "The chilling mood was captured perfectly."
