do you want to direct at old mill next year?
Wed, 8 Apr 2009, 04:30 pmThis is an open invitation to anyone who may be interested in making a submission to direct at Old Mill Theatre (South Perth) in 2010. We are definitely seeking expressions of interest for full length submissions, but may also hold a One-Act season next year as well. Note that all directors, cast and crew are required to become members of the theatre, and that it is our policy to submit all productions for Finley adjudication.
There is no restriction on submissions, but our programming decisions are made with a number of factors in mind, including:
- Our assessment of the quality of the play being submitted
- Ease of staging (remembering that the Old Mill stage is relatively compact)
- Plays that will achieve an overall balance to our program for the year
- Our confidence in the ability of the director to steer the production well
You will need to provide us with:
- A copy of the script
- An indication of your directing experience
- Any notes that you may have on how you intend to stage the production
- If possible, an indication that rights are available
- Dates that you would be unavailable to direct
- Preferences for season dates
Submissions should be made before 22nd May, and we hope to finalise the program at our Board meeting on 8th June. Feel free to make multiple submissions to improve your chance of success, but note that only one will be selected.
If you are interested in making a submission, or would like to discuss with me prior to making a submission, please send me a private email through this website, or to my email address below.
Hope to hear from you!

UPDATE 28th May: Garry is heading overseas for 6 weeks, and will not be able to receive submissions to direct at Old Mill. Instead, please contact our alternative contact Phil Barnett on philbarnett@live.com.au

Outdoor season
Dear Garry and the Old Mill Board
In relating to submissions- will the Old Mill continue with an outdoor season at the Scented Garden in 2010?
Thanks

Outdoor Season
Once we have 'recovered' from the associated work (most of which was, like an iceberg underneath and unseen!!) we will be assessing the venture and making a decision.
R & J was certainly a success from the production side, ie cast and audience, Mercutio says he's recovered from his injuries, the costume people have taken a much needed breather and so on.
Watch this space!

hmm...possibly...
The venue was fantastic in many ways, but one of our biggest concerns was the frequent distractions emanating from nearby apartment blocks and playgrounds.
We are definitely considering an outdoor season again, but we are looking at the logistics of an alternative venue further along the South Perth foreshore that is a bit more protected.
As Norma says...watch this space...

not yet
Our play selection committee was unable to review all scripts received prior to our Board meeting this week. Our next meeting is 13 July, and I expect the programs to finalised then. Sorry for the delay.
