Calling One Act Play - Directors, Assitant Directors & Stage Managers

The Garrick Theatre One Act Playwright Competition is storming along at full speed. We’ve had over 143 people register their interest so far and the plays are rolling in keeping our 5 adjudicators very busy.

We’re getting submissions from all over the world including America, Ireland and Scotland with 54 Playwrights so far from Western Australia.

Only 3 plays will be selected and then we’ll match up the directors who have put their name forward to be considered…We’re seeking Directors, Assistant Directors and Stage Managers for this inaugural competition.

Director’s preference will be given to the experienced, however, if you are super keen to direct your first ever production then please still register your interest, this could be a good opportunity to take on assistant director or stage manager position… a terrific opportunity to learn more and develop your talents.

The Challenge:

Directors will be given a play to direct, they will not be able to choose a preferred play. The selected three directors will be required to take on the writers vision with the aim of producing a quality production suitable for the Garrick stage and state one act festival entries.

In the event a proposed director has also entered as a playwright – and if selected, the director can not direct their own play.

The Garrick 2009 One Act Playwright Competition is being run by Bruce Denny of Ad Libitum and Melanie DeCull of TAZ Entertainment on behalf of the Garrick Theatre Club.

Here are all the important dates:

Closing date for entries – Wed 3rd June 2009

Closing date for director registrations – Wed 3rd June 2009

Fri 3rd July – Announcement of the 3 x Winning Plays

Sat 11th July – Writers invited to introduce their play, incorporated with club social event – open to all club members and guests. (bar open/nibbles)

Auditions:  Tuesday 14th July @ 7pm.
Cast immediately if possible. - 7 weeks – Audition date & rehearsals commence

Workshop: 1 week
Rehearsal Process: 6 weeks

· ITA State One Act Drama Festival
September 25 – 28
Venue: To be advised – Metropolitan Perth.
