WE HAPPY FEW needs a Gertrude.
We had a Gertrude. We lost a Gertrude. We are now looking for a new Gertrude.

WE HAPPY FEW is a comedy/drama set in Britain during WWII. The bombs may be falling but the show must go on ...! Based on the true story of the Osiris Players, WHF follows the adventures of a group of women who get together to spread theatre and culture throughout Britain during the War Years as a way of boosting morale on the Home Front.

Performing at The Old Mill Theatre, between May 1st and May 16th, 2009.
GERTRUDE : Acting
Gertrude Rosenbaum is a Jewish German refugee. She and her son Joseph have escaped Nazism, although her doctor husband has chosen to stay behind to care for the needy. She is a somewhat grumpy, typically teutonic, stoic, opinionated individual. She becomes a part of The Theatre Troupe for her piano playing abilities and does such exceedingly well. Personally, she disapproves of her son’s involvement with Ivy - a common servant girl. But it is Gertrude who steps in and does the extraordinary during the play’s emotional and dramatic climax.
GERTRUDE : Piano Playing
Yes, we do need someone who can act AND play the piano. The music side of things involves playing brief snatches of classical music, playing an original song (the Troupe sing to Shakespeare’s “All The World’s A Stage” speech), playing some incidental panto music to an improvised version of SNOW WHITE when the projector breaks down in the local cinema and the children need entertaining, as well as some other incidental music to scenes from Macbeth, The Tempest and Oliver Twist! Such music will be arranged with our Musical Director, Bonnie Coyle.
