MEDIA RELEASE – For Immediate Release
The Green Room returns the applause
After the unexpected and sad closure of Perth’s Access 31TV in August last year, The Green Room is excited to return with a new online series celebrating community theatre via the internet.
The Green Room Online will continue to promote WA’s vibrant community theatre scene with interviews and vision uploaded to the site every month.
Green Room creator Louis Shepherd says, “We have a proven working concept with a lot of amazing support from the numerous Perth theatres and community. It was devastating to our team and our viewers when Access31TV closed their doors and suddenly community theatre didn’t have a way of sharing their news with the general public”.
The team decided to rest and weigh up their options for the remainder of 2008 and have found that by utilising the internet they can keep the community and fans informed by continuing to spread the thespian word.
Green Room host Melanie DeCull says “everyone involved in The Green Room takes an active role and gives up their time to voluntarily contribute. We’ve all missed being involved with the show for the last several months and now we’re all keen to get back out there and promote our theatres, their shows and talent, even if we’re not on a television screen. You can’t keep a good show down”.
In 2008 The Green Room was recognised with a nomination for Best Arts Program at the National Antenna Awards in Melbourne.
In February’s online edition The Green Room feature Roleystone Theatre and look into the burning question ‘What is community theatre and why should you be part of it’. It also looks at how auditions work, stage fighting and where a playwright finds his inspiration.
