Where are the nominations

Where are the nominations for best play and musical?
Walter PlingeSun, 4 Jan 2009, 10:28 am

Nominations

It seems that the world financial crisis has struck the Finleys also and cutbacks have been necessary, including the award for Best Production.
NormaSun, 4 Jan 2009, 10:42 am

Nominations

No there has not been a cutback of any kind!

The ITA decided not to release everything at once- a little bit of mystery is always tantalising!! You'll just have to come along to the actual awards night to find out won't you!!

And as to the latest Walter Whinger ( and the rest of them) why not make a New Year Resolution to be positive for once in your lives or do you actually enjoy being miserable?

Julia HernSun, 4 Jan 2009, 11:25 am

I just want to say thanks

I just want to say thanks to the ITA for a fun and well organised night. The noms party was a wonderful idea for an event to increase the sense of community in Perth theatre. It was also a great chance to network and socialise. On the actual Finley awards night, while it's most entertaining, it's more structured and the sheer volume of people makes it difficult to spend time with friends you may normally only get the chance to chat to on Facebook! :)

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the very deserving nominees and also to the people who gave brilliant performances but didn't manage a nomination as the competition in their category was so fierce. Well Done!

Submissions

Not speaking for RA in any way, just thought that I should mention that clubs are required to submit their plays for Finley Nominations. Was RA Submitted to the Finley's?

Congratulations on another great year 2008

Well done and congratulations to all those who have been nominated for shows submitted for 2008 - a huge list of achievements. I hope all goes to plan on the night and a good time is had by all. Also congratulations to everyone who has dedicated time and love to the arts over the last year - was a fantastic year! I look forward to seeing what is laid forth for 2009. Warm regards and cheer for 2009 Peter

What a joke i thought to be

What a joke i thought to be nominated for a finley for best musical theatre performer you at least had to sing in tune there are some terrible choices there i would be embarrassed to actually recieve an award perth theatre is becoming a joke. Why does the opinion of 4 people that really contribute very little matter. there is several musicals nominated that had very little choreography in it and some with pitch problems. Well done to every show this year every single show all put in amazing efforts and kept the musical theatre world in perth alive its such a shame they turn it into a competition instead of an enjoyable hobby ... Good luck to all in 2009

Should be fun...anyone who

Should be fun...anyone who hasn't been nominated?

Well how about the Awfully

Well how about the Awfully big adventure of Errol Flynn?
Walter PlingeTue, 6 Jan 2009, 03:36 pm

I'm quite amazed at some of

I'm quite amazed at some of the performers that were nominated. Peter Clark in Laughing Matter or Daniel Kershaw and Jeff Watkins in Geometry of Love. Were they rubbish, or did the Finley judges have an axe to grind?
Walter PlingeTue, 6 Jan 2009, 03:40 pm

"And as to the latest

"And as to the latest Walter Whinger ( and the rest of them) why not make a New Year Resolution to be positive for once in your lives or do you actually enjoy being miserable?" Pot calling the kettle black surely :o)
NormaTue, 6 Jan 2009, 05:43 pm

And as the the latest

And for that bit of rudeness you can buy me a drink on the 17th -If you are there!!

Don CallisonTue, 6 Jan 2009, 11:45 pm

I too,like Walter Ping was

I too, like Walter Ping was surprised at what had not been nominated, including the three actors he mentions, then I realised that I had only seen less than a quarter of the plays nominated. The fact is that the general quality of amateur theatre is so high that many very memorable performances are not going to receive nominations. Not receiving a Finley is in no way indicative of lack of quality of a show or talent of a performer. As more of a theatre patron tnan actual participant I must say that I have enjoyed some plays more than others but ALL were enjoyable.I thank all those who put so much into providing that enjoyment
LabrugWed, 7 Jan 2009, 09:02 am

Adroit

Excellently put Mr Callison, and very true. Although many may not agree, the Finleys are in part responsible for the excellent standards WA Community Theatre enjoys.

This by no means diminishes the core passion and desire of actors to do their best in their own little way, nor is it a statement that ALL WA Theater is of a high standard.

With in excess of 50 shows, and what half a dozen nominations at best, if even half of the shows submitted were of good or higher quality, then some great performances are going to be pipped at the post.
