Na, I'm going to expose

Na, I'm going to expose myself as a right idiot here - I don't know HOW to moderate up or down! I clicked on 'EXCELLENT' and then 'ADD VOTE', but it didn't seem to do anything at all. Sorry, but I've never done it before, and I agree that your warning should be prominently displayed. Having been plagued by these scammers through my E-mail a while ago, I'd like to see them stamped out too. It's pretty obvious what they're trying to do, but I'd hate to think of somebody a little less perceptive getting conned by them. Edit: And once again I've noticed the note about referring to the FAQ section! Stand by while I look it up.

I think more people need to vote for it to work. Furry puppet eyes for your next build at Puppets in Melbourne

Correct

Prior to any tweeking Grant may have done and prior to all the discussions previously on this site, it would take two Excellent votes to promote a thread to the homes page. this has to be maintained with averaging also.

Now that Grant has modified things, it may take a bit more. I don't know that score.

Empat banned

My apologies to anyone who received this rubbish.

This pathetic, disrespectful, excuse for human being - already apparently disowned by his own mother! - registered an account for the sole purpose of spamming members via private messages and has been banned.

They registered on the site this morning and posted a single spam, then returned at 7.05pm and spammed a further 22 members before I suspect that Na's return volley of 31 nonsense messages shut this idiot up at about 8.30pm.

Sorry if I've spoiled your fun, Na!

If you received a message, please don't respond and particularly don't send any emails - you can guess what will happen to your email address!

For the enjoyment of those that take a peverse pleasure in reading the ridiculous lengths these criminals will go to in order to try and snag a victim and for the edification of the few people left in the world that have never seen a classic piece of "nigerian" spam, I've reproduced portions below.

It would almost be funny if there weren't clearly sufficient gullible people left in the world to make it worth this criminal's time to pursue this.

31?

Off by about 45. I actually 'spammed' the poor guy back with about 75 messages in an hour. Funnily enough, spammers who do this (sign up for accounts and then spam using the PM system) tend to read their inbox and get distracted. And then get sick of me spamming them and disappear. :) Weird huh? Furry puppet eyes for your next build at Puppets in Melbourne

Yeah, sometimes I reply to

Yeah, sometimes I reply to spammers with a message saying I'll help them, only if they send me their bank account details, address, etc., and usually add in one more request, like send me their hat size or something. It's just so tempting to make fun of them Furry puppet eyes for your next build at Puppets in Melbourne

Ive always wanted to spam

Ive always wanted to spam their accounts back... sounds like fun Na but alas Grant beat me to it. Reminds me of years ago before the current system of 19hundred SMS numbers for mobiles existed. They use to use real mobile numbers to send spam so id just spend an hour or so calling it. Being connected to a computer it rang but never answered thus jamming the line and preventing out going SMS. Any way thanks and keep up the good work Na and Grant. http://www.meltheco.org.au

Just lucky that I was

Just lucky that I was around at the time. One of the reasons why forced registration doesn't always work. There are anti-spammer organisations out there that actually do spam the spammers or do spammer baiting (a version of which I employed here); it's not recommended of course, but sometimes, you can't help but feel the need to try and get some justice back in a world where the laws have yet to catch up.
