finalists

interesting to see that half of the finalists are from WA. Who said that WA theatre was dying?
Walter PlingeSat, 20 Sept 2008, 03:23 pm

storm the stage, hardly

Luke it is a rule of storm the stage that half the contestants are from WA. it has always been like that. i think they had a total of about 70 entrants from around WA enter this year and from that 10 of them are in the grand final. it is stupid to suggest that they are the best of the best. it used to be a great competition and now it is just an waste of time. no publicity for it, no interest in it and interesting to see that the numbers are dwindling fast. An indication it has run its course. We should stop flogging the dead horse, it is starting to smell.
Walter PlingeSun, 21 Sept 2008, 03:18 am

what?

That is totally untrue, Storm has never been bigger or better. Every year it grows. I can't wait to see what next year has instore!

Disgruntled??

Walter Plinged (yet another great unknown): A taste of sour grapes? Yours sound like the words of an unsuccessful entrant... perhaps even more than once? The performers chosen as the final 20 certainly are the best of the best... or they wouldn't be there - regardless of their home state! (and, just as a general aside - as a Theatre Industry employee, I know that the graduates that come out of WAAPA and the other training camps in W.A. are the most sought after performers and technical crew in Australia. But, by your reckoning, I guess it is "stupid" to suggest that this could be because they might just be "the best".)

"If I was a dog ... I would too!" - Rove.

Walter PlingeSun, 21 Sept 2008, 09:56 am

what

yes every year it grows.... grows into a more lacklustre performance grows into more of a laughing stock in the industry grows into more of a waste of time and space grows into more of a money making industry for those people who can make money out of it.
Walter PlingeSun, 21 Sept 2008, 10:07 am

Then don't go, why do you

Then don't go, why do you care so much? It's a waste of your time being negative about something you seem to not care about. I have seen many great things come from "Storm the Stage" and I am sure there is so much more left. Peace.
Luke HeathTue, 23 Sept 2008, 01:06 am

I agree

I wasn't aware that half of the finalists HAD to be from WA, but nevertheless, if they are good enough to be finalists, then my point stands. Not that I want to be disparaging of the other states' finalists. On another note (and thread), mmmt, please become a registered user if you haven't already. We need more rational voices like yours on here to counteract the building "plingeocracy".

Walter plinged talks shit

Being a contestant in storm the stage for the last 4 years, and being in the Grand Final 3 times, i think my opinion of Storm the Stage is more accurate than most. Walter plinge states: 'it used to be a great competition and now it is just an waste of time. no publicity for it, no interest in it and interesting to see that the numbers are dwindling fast.' thats absolute rubbish. For a start, publicity has increased for it. Yes perth had about 70 entrants this year or something, but to suggest that their was no talent is absolute rubbish- Considering that all 5 of the music theatre competitors attend waapa and study full time courses there shows your lack of knowledge and just down right stupidity. And 2 of the acting performers also at waapa. i have watched storm grow, from originally being small, and growing in magnitude each year, with better support, better contestants and bigger, originally starting with just a piano for the grand final, and minimal lighting, to now an orchestra and a band and with lighthing cues, and special effects. You say there is no publicity- it was around, and though there wasn't such as high a turn out this year for WA, other states such as QLD had a huge influx of new registrations and iexpect will grow more for next year. As for no interest in it, absolute bull shit- there was such a huge crowd, so dont know what you're smoking, cause you're talking absolute crap. WA has 10 contestants, because being the host state, and initiated by the late Geoff Gibbs, and promoting WA talent, it was incorporated in the rules that 10 wa contestants be selected for the grand final. I have watched the talent over teh years, having had to compete with them, and they give a hell of a run for their money. The talent is getting much better, and it is getting harder and harder tot make it to the finals. You obviously have some form of grudge against the competition or those in it. Why youwould you bag something that provides an opportunity to perform, helps you grow as a performer and showcases both WA and Australia's talent, not to mention the opoortunity it provides to lighting, stage crew and other forms of training to students. it simply eludes me....you are a true sadist, and obviously are one of the few no lifers that come on these forums, to bag the crap out of everything and undermine everything good to happen in perth, and as far as i am concerned you just have no clue. i never stated that those who make it to the final are the best in the best, and nor will i say that, but Storm the Stage provides a great night out, and has people on stage that both a- entertain, b- sing in pitch c- tell and convey a message or tell a story, and d- haev the potential to be rising stars, as the quality is that of a high standard. So ill conclude that you have no clue, and your comments aren't warrented and not even valid. Dont know why you think its 'being flogged to death'...i personally think you have some hidden reason, perhaps you weren't good enough or something....doesnt matter, and nor do i care, but i do care that you are bagging the competiton and making it out to be something its not. so kudos to you. -Julian Goncalves-

Thanks

Robert a sigh? That can be taken in many ways. Yes I competed this year and only made it to the semi final - just thought I'd put that straight out there. I'd like to say thank you to those who competed in WA this year. you guys put up one hell of a fight. Comgrats to Callan from WA who won the Musical Theatre award. Thanks to those from the other states who came over and gave the audience a great night of entertainment. Storm is a great opportunity to develop as a performer. I know I learnt something different about myself as a performer then what I leanrt last year. Each time I enter I learn something new, meet new people. It's a great showcase. Support it. WA deserves the chance, and so do the other young performers around Aussie land. Thanks again guys. I took my littl cousin on Saturday night and she is convinced to enter next year. She was amazed at the skills for such young performers. ~ Tari The Writer is a child forever listening at the keyhole of the adult world.
