Garrick Theatre is proud to present The Stillborn Lover, a play of political and personal betrayal written by Canadian playwright Timothy Findley. Directed by John Lobb, The Stillborn Lover combines espionage and murder in this adult’s only production.

The Canadian ambassador to Moscow and his wife Marian who suffers from Alzheimers are brought back secretly to Canada and placed in a safe house after the murder of a young man in the Moscow embassy.

Also in the house are two special agents investigating the murder. Is he under suspicion? Who was the young man, was he a friend or a lover? What can Marian recall of their time in Moscow as she slips away from reality into her own little world?

What are the plans of the ambassador’s long time friend Michael Riordon have for them, as he pushes to become the next Prime Minister of Canada.

Director John Lobb says he first read the script several years ago when it was submitted at Garrick and thought ‘what a great story’. The play didn’t go ahead that year, however whilst Lobb was looking for a play last year, he rang the now late George Dickinson, the highly respected WA director who originally submitted the show. “George was thrilled that I was keen to present this powerful production, and with our exceptional cast, we sincerely hope and are confident this production would make George proud”.

The Stillborn Lover contains adult themes and some discreet nudity, therefore making this show suitable for adult audiences only.
