Access Closes its doors after all

Well, in a surprise descision that apparently has caught everone 'unawares' so to speak, Access 31 is officially shut down. Here is an official post from the producers of Wake Up! WA sent late on the 6th August.

To all cast, crew, sponsors and viewers of Wake Up! WA,

It is with great regret that I announce the immediate and unexpected closure of Access 31. This news has come as a complete surprise to us and it is news that has not only shocked us but disappointed us as well.

This obviously means that Wake Up! WA will not be able to broadcast in its current form effective immediately. There will therefore be no edition of Wake Up! WA in the morning or for the immediate future. This news was relayed to me at 4.30pm this afternoon and prior to this I had no knowledge that this was going to happen.

Apparently the decision was made by the Board on Monday. Unfortunately no-one outside of the board were informed of this decision until this afternoon. It would seem that the station’s so-called “White Knight” Garry Baverstock has withdrawn his offer of funding. His reasons for this seem a little unclear although it would appear as if his initial offer was not as secure as we were led to believe. The Federal and State Governments lack of commitment also seems to have played a significant part

This is an extremely disappointing outcome considering the support we have all given Access 31. However this does not necessarily mean the end of Wake Up! WA. There are other broadcast options outside of Access 31 and we will weigh up the best options available to us.
