Who is an artist?
What do creative communities look like?
What role does arts and culture play in developing community wellbeing?
People are invited to have their say in shaping arts and cultural policy at a series of public forums taking place in July.
The Development and Strategy Directorate (DSD) is in the process of developing an Umbrella Policy Framework, to encompass the breadth of programs and activities undertaken across the Directorate. DSD was formed in 2006 by the joining of ArtsWA and the Department’s Policy and Planning section. It is additionally responsible for implementation of 15 of the 21 projects announced in the Ignite package.
The DSD Umbrella Policy Framework builds on the work of the Directorate since 2006 and incorporates:
The development of an outcomes report demonstrating the achievements of DSD against the existing policies over the past five-seven year period
An evaluation of the effectiveness of the implementation of previous policy statements
The review of achievements and setting of priorities for the individual funding areas of DSD for the next five year period
The scope of the Framework is to articulate the key goals and objectives of the Directorate, which will enable alignment of existing programs and activities, and a context for the development of new programs and initiatives.
To ensure that a broad range of perspectives are represented in the policy development process, DSD is undertaking a public consultation, of which a series of public forums are the first stage.
Presenters and attendees will explore and discuss current issues and new directions relating to the forum topic. Outcomes from each forum will inform and influence the development of the new policy framework.
