Help save La Mama
Mon, 7 July 2008, 01:40 pmLa Mama Theatre is struggling through one of the most important troubles in it’s history. As you may or may not know, La Mama’s landlady of 40 years - Rose del Monaco – died in November last year. Her estate has offered us first option to purchase La Mama.
Whilst thrilled at this offer, we are working against the clock to raise 1.7million before the 30th of September this year. Already, we have seen the giving hearts of the Melbourne and Australian Arts Community, including large amounts from the Victorian Government, Myer Foundation and the Pratt Foundation.
The end is not yet in sight as La Mama’s unique theatre is still under threat.
Tom Holloway, an established playwright has decided to run a fundraising workshop during the month of July, which gives Melbourne’s playwrights the opportunity to work with Tom and assist with raising funds in our plight.
Please refer to the below flyer
If you are unable to attend the workshop, you are still welcome to donate to the Save La Mama Fund.
All contributions are welcomed and are all fully tax deductible.
The Action Of The Playwright: A master class in telling the hard stories.
Recently described as ‘one of the most exciting young playwrights in Australia, Tom Holloway’s experience has included study at The Royal Court Theatre in London and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Australia. His plays have been seen across the country and overseas.
La Mama has been at the centre of new writing in this country for over forty years, this workshop will give you a taste of the creative community that La Mama is a part of.
This workshop endeavours to help you realize your individuality within the contemporary playwriting landscape as well as inspire you to tackle the stories you have been desperate to share, but have feared to begin.
All proceeds of this workshop will go towards supporting La Mama in securing it’s home for generations to come.
When: 26th of July, 10am until 3pm
Where: Carlton Courthouse
How much: $50 (tax deductible)
Bookings: Places are limited

Blame LM - I just copied
Mon, 14 July 2008, 02:02 pmBlame LM - I just copied and pasted from their media release. I'm sure they're too busy to notice a couple of spelling mistakes. Personally, I'd rather see them keep running for another forty years than worry about "it's".
